What do you think can be causing poor gas mileage?? The car is a 96' GT 5spd with 65k miles. Its seems to be getting around 18mpg in the city. I would think it would get better than that!! I can get better than that with my 3000GT. Could Oxygen sensor be the problem? Anyone else have bad gas mileage?

18 is really bad... I get about 28-30 when driving in "city-like" conditions. I live out in the country but the roads get backed up like hell.

yeap..about 250miles to the tank.. Sucky! MAn, i looked up the o2 sensor and its freakin 135$!!! doubt we will be changing that anything soon. I think i may put my spark plugs in this weekend and see if that makes a difference. They are probably original plugs.

hey latin. Let me know on the o2 sensor. I would like to see if it fixes your problem. IF it does then i guess we will try to make the dealership put one on because the car came with a 3month warrenty. I doubt they will want to though.

65k miles .... sounds like you could use a tune up.

That's exactly what I was going to suggest... Driving style makes a difference with gas mileage...

I'm getting less than 18mpg confused.gif all city driving and I've tried driving slowly. I put Sunoco's Plus (94) in it and the consumption was so high I barely got 110mi. / tank!

The light came on and I put in 12 gal. to the top.

now it's back to 87 Unleaded...

My gas mileage was brought back up, dont know exactly how much but i'll post. My second o2 sensor was hella hectic to get out. Could not remove from under so i proceeded to remove the inter cooler. Got to the damn o2 sensor and was literally standing on the damn ratchet to loosen up the sensor. I couldn't loosen it up so i called my pops, This guy is BIG, He just bare handed that ratchet and popped it out. F***ing thing was super glued on and the sh*t was stripped. Sloppy a$$ mechanics almost managed to mess it up. Somehow me and my dad managed to put the new o2 sensor in without glue or nuthin. I hope i wont have to change it anytime soon. But my car handles alot better and by what i've noticed, it gets better gas mileage.

Good thing that you switched back... because higher octane won't improve gas mileage.

Oh... so my Celica has two O2 sensors? Great....

Is there a way to test if it's actually bad?
