If any one can give me a idea of what is wrong with my car it will be greatly appreciated. That being said...

I was driving my car down to my work to see my schedule. on the way (I was going about 55) i didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. Then on the way out I shifted up until 5th gear waiting till about 3grand each shift.

When i went to slow down at a red light i tried to down shift but couldn't get it into 4th i then tried every gear and it would not engage. i then had to use my brakes pretty hard to avoid going through the intersection. when the car came to a complete stop i could finally shift into 1st. so i continued down the road and at every time i tried to slow down and downshift i could not and was forced to pull over on the shoulder.

I really have no idea why this is happening. I am 16 by the way and i just thought it was some inexperience showing but realized something was wrong. I even had my dad drive it and had the same problem. I also had the clutch replaced about 4 months ago.

Thanks for any responses

well all I could think of was maybe your shifter linkages are either messed up or weren't connected properly when you did the Clutch swap. you might want to look into that

WOW>>That's scary!! I'm learning this stuff myself. I don't know what the shift linkage looks like or if there's an adjustment rod like on '60s & 70's cars.If there is, maybe adjust it? Or check the slave cylinder for fluid level. If there's a slave cylinder, possibly needs to be bled -- like bleeding breaks. Don't know how to do it, but I've heard it passed around after some clutch work on a friends camaro.

hmm i dont think it would be the slave cylinder because that affects the Clutch pressure mainly but not a bad suggestion lol

bleed the slave cylinder (your clutch might not be engaging the entire way)... also check tranny fluid level... they might have drained it on the swap and you might have been leaking it this entire time... linkage would most likely keep the car from shifting on a stop as well... how about this... it could also be engine mounts.... if your mounts are gone.. the engine will rock on higher RPMS and could be stretching your linkage... it could also be the WRONG tranny fluid that is starting to break down... other than the tranny failing (synchros)
