just to clarify, i am looking for an engine i can drop in, this does not require and modifications does it? alot of these seem to be in supras, a rear wheel drive car....will the engine work in my car seeing as though it is front wheel drive?

^ lol Brady. But its right there is a search function and plenty stickies and threads to answer your question. Typically for your ST a 4age gets dropped in. Research on what specific 4a. You could get a 3s as well but you will have to do that research on your own.

1UZ - SC400/LS400

1JZ - Supra/Chaser/Soarer

The V6 you want is what came in the Camry and Solara, which is the 1MZ-FE. And "best engine" is an opinion and could be based on performance, reliability, efficiency, etc.

It will be more powerful if u swap a 3SGTE with say 245PS, but u have to solve the understeering problem if your Celica is a FWD. Cos I got a parts car ST215 Caldina turbo M/T for my engine swap, but my car is also a FWD, so i still could not make the decision.

oh man, its fun to have all the hp under the hood.

After driving the swap, and driving my car, i now know the stock engine is severely underpowered...

way to welcome a new member guys

New guy: "best" is highly subjective. IDK if one is "better" than another. It just depends entirely on what your needs and goals are for your car.

Some motors to research are going to be a 3sgte, a 4age - both Blacktop and Silvertop, and a 4agze. Beyond that it gets into heavy customization which sounds like something you're trying to avoid. The 3sgte will get you the most HP, but the 4age and 4agze is a better swap candidate for an ST if you're not wanting to do too much modding to accommodate the motor. I'm not so sure any of them is as simple as a straight swap though, but it's a lot closer w/the 4age.

I have to agree that there is no such thing as simply a "BEST" engine. Each engine is different and how you modify it also has pretty significant effects. Usually making High End power hurts low end torque and what not. But simply speaking for your ST a 4A-GE engine swap would probably be the easiest since your car has an A Series Engine. but your going from a 1.8L to a 1.6L which means torque would take a sick beating but the top end is pretty good for those engines. Of course you can find a wrecked GT at a Junk yard and swap the 5S-FE in, its not the fastest engine nor gets the greatest mileage but its got pretty good drive-ability patterns thanks to its 2.2L displacement. Then again you can swap in a JDM or EDM 3S-GE which makes alot more top end than a 5S-FE or 4A-GE. but again its low end power isn't as good as a 5S-FE because its a smaller engine being 2.0L so drive-ablity is again hurt. But then again you always have the option of getting a 3S-GTE which has power all across the rev range but suffers from turbo Lag, at least non rally cars do from what I hear. Or you could do a V6 swap from a camry but these are a little more complicated but drive-ability is second to none. especially if you mod it correctly. And you'd get great top end. Simply put your choice of engine depends on how you'd like to drive. A daily driver wouldn't make top end to be a great race car yet a Track car would suck in traffic. The Choice is yours

Choose Wisely lol wink.gif
