Will this work? Sensors, tranny, etc..
I found a guy who loves to do mods. He said if I get the motor, he'll do the work free; simply spread the word about him. Is it going to cost a lot in conversions? I need to do something. I threw a rod racing at 120. frown.gif I miss my car reaallll bad.
If this won't work, does anybody know where to find a cheap motor or rebuild kit?
Thanks, peace out

it is deff. possible, you biggest issues will be fabin a header, and getting an emanage, or hydro to tune the engine, and its gonna be a wiring nightmare, plus the fact that the 2zz engine even from a junk yard is atleast $2000 plus the c60 transmission. it will be expensive and time consuming, but if u got the $$$ go for it.

rolleyes.gif Serves you right for street racing.

At the top of the forum there is a thread called "Engine FAQ, swaps, intakes, exhaust, ect, READ THIS FIRST BEFORE POSTING"

in that there is this thread:

Pay close attention to the second paragraph under non-feasible.

^^Harsh^^

but very true. if you got the time and money go for it but the 2ZZ was never designed for our cars. not to mention your down-sizing your engine from a 2.2L to a 1.8L so that alone would be a deterrent to most. Simply put its going to cost ALOT! its definitely not going to be reliable. and its going to suck as a daily driver. nuff said

downsizing from a 2.2 to a 1.8 isn't the problem here. It's not about displacement, it's about compression. But it's a moot point since it's not a likely swap. I guess anything is possible, but what if the mechanic gets halfway through and says oh sh1t, I can't do this, and throws in the towel since he's doing it for free anyway?

You wanna do a less common swap, do a 6 cylinder swap.

well it depends honestly on wat your looking for. an ST's 7A is also a 1.8L but its designed vastly different. so unless you plan to drive over 5000 rpms just to get decent torque figures the 2ZZ isnt a great choice unless you plan on applying force induction. And parts alone are going to be expensive you might as well get a complete GTS even if he does it for free.

this is not true with the 2zz other than it is expensive, it gets its maximum torque before 4k rpm, it is gutless from then on till lift at 6800 rpm, its great off the line, and in the top end, especially if u get a cable throttle body that came in the matrix and corrola xrs's, instead of the drive by wire crap that came in the gts's.

this is not a wise decision...

Fabbing motor mounts, wiring, sourcing, and any bumps on the road is gonna take much MUCH longer.

That is a real nice thought. But parents don't have the money, my job shut down a few paychecks after I started, and I don't have a way to get to a job anymore because I have that crazy overprotectve mother who thinks its dangerous to walk in my tiny town. MY celi cost my dad $1650 wrecked, <$2000 when everything was done. Love my little car.

yeah but just the engine with swap is around 7k, so your best bet is to find used engine from somebody that swapped.

If you had an ST it would be cheaper to step up to a better motor, but a 3SGTE will cost you a couple grand, then wiring, exhaust, random bugs with every swap, etc. It is a general rule of thumb to have about 6 grand set aside to cover all your costs with a 3SGTE. Since a 2ZZ swap hasn't ever been done into a 6th gen celica it is going to cost A LOT more. Plus I'm sure since your riding mom and dad's pocketbook nothing will fly but another 5SFE.

But if you're serious about it why don't you PM Dr. Tweak and ask what it would cost.

Why are you relying on mommy and daddy's money? If you were to spend your own money you would take better care of the motor in the first place rather than racing around town blowing up your motor. The motor isn't a performance motor.. I owned a 7th gen gts and it was a blast to drive. Well the first couple of weeks. After that its just plain jane boring. You want fun day in and day out get a 3sgte under the hood. And use your own money. You'd appreciate it more.

the 2ZZ makes more HP than the 5S and weighs half as much so it would be an upgrade, but the major issue will be motor mounts and the fact that the egine is backwards. the intake and exhaust are on opposite sides.

Mom's crazy overprotective. She "lost" my birth certificate so I couldn't get my permit. Finally convinced her to let me get a job; they closed after 3 paychecks. So, I have no money, no job, and now no ride to get to a job if one of the freaking 100 places I put in an application at ever calls. And dad told me if I kept good grades and stayed outta trouble, he'd get me a car. I had a $2000 budget for my 3.7 gpa. So I don't exactly feel spoiled or anything here... But yea, I was dumb for racing it.

Wow!! I didn't get squat for my 3.7 GPA in HS.. I was also all-conference in football... But good for you. To save yourself money use that $2000 and get a 98+ 5s motor.. Then when you get power hungry BOOST it.
