I am from California and starting a project swap. This would be my first swap. I already have the engine and the body, just missing the ECU. I was actually at pick and pull today trying to find one. All I found was a 4ag engine and its ECU. The car was made in the states. Any ideas on where I should Start?

Well, I talked to some friends. They mention that if the engine was once in the car, it's possible to finish the paperwork. Something about a loop hole.

http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/replace.htm?PF=Y
From link:

Engine Changes
Engine changes are legal as long as the following requirements are met to ensure that the change does not increase pollution from the vehicle:

* The engine must be the same year or newer than the vehicle.

* The engine must be from the same type of vehicle (passenger car, light-duty truck, heavy-duty truck, etc.) based on gross vehicle weight.

* If the vehicle is a California certified vehicle then the engine must also be a California certified engine.

* All emissions control equipment must remain on the installed engine.

--------------------------------
I've already looked into a 3sgte swap. Not possible in CA.

loop holes are not always good. its like speculating you will win the lottery and decide to max your credit cards.

dont risk it, or move from cali

Wow. CA suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks.

Next option: turbo that sucker. biggrin.gif Or you could do a 3MZ-FE swap (V6).

Theres always the pay a couple extra bills and have it be all good....... Other than that, good luck on that loop hole, it doesn't work too well. There's a couple 3g swapped cali members here, ask their advice in pm.
