Ok so I've been looking for a cheap way to deaden sound cause as we all know it the celi is a sports car and not meant to have too much weight but I cant stand road noise. I live AZ past couple days its been 110 and above. "Sorry not tryn to bore u" Anyways my roof gets so hot even with a/c on full blast it takes like 20mins to cool down maybe 5 degrees. My a/c works fine. I decided to do some research on some sound deadener cause I have a sub as well. I found out that stuff also helps to stop heat which made since to me if the panel is thicker it will take a while to heat up. I had read that this air duct insulation wrap does the same deal. So I researched it its called "Frost king" thats the brand anyway. Both Lowes and Home depot sell it. I went to Lowes cause it cheaper. You can get 12" and 15ft of it for like 15. I took off my headliner yesterday day and broke my visor in the process t was sun baked oh well. I scraped off the old padding in there. Afterwards I got and old clean rag and soap and water and scrubbed off any sticky residue and dirt did it 3 times to be safe. Then I dried it with another old clean rag. Then started applying it since it has a sticky side u dont need glue. It stuck on there real well i had enough to do it twice. All I can say is that it feels cooler inside and my bass sounds cleaner. You can try it yourself its not too tough. I only did the roof cause thats all the money I had but i thiunk Im going to do my whole car. The material is pretty light weight.

The Frost King/Thermwell product is NOT sound deadener. It's insulation which works for sound as well as the heat it was originally designed for (it's actually meant for use on heating ducts).
I did my doors, passenger compartment floor and around the front half of the rear wheel wells (the part inside the quarter panels). That took me three full rolls, but I had tight seams and complete coverage. I made a point of leaving the factory sound deadening (the asphalt/hard rubber) in place as that attacks a different issue. The insulation will reduce road noise far more than it will reduce panel vibration. However removing all that extraneous, often low-frequency noise from outside the car will improve the perception of the sound system. There's actually a long thread on this topic and product: http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=61981 |
