No, its pertty difficult for me to describe. I have one sound that sounds like the dust plate is scraping my rotor when I turn one direction, but can't find any evidence of it. The other constant one sounds like what I could only describe as ball bearings without lubrication. My first thought was CV joints but I packed that CV with grease after I took it apart and I don't think the bearings in the CV move like that.

IDK if anybody can relate to hearing noises you know aren't supposed to be there and not being able to locate. mad.gif

Did you torque the axle nuts to 159 ft. lbs. ???? Did you ever put the wheels on the ground without the axle torqued in the hub? Your wheel bearing may have got wiped out.

Putting the wheel on the ground without the hub bolted doesn't sound like something I'd do, but I can't say for sure.

If it was my wheel bearing, I'd actually be relieved its not the axle.

If the sound gets louder while turning left, then the passenger wheel brg. is bad. If its the other way around, its the other wheel brg.

It sounds exclusive to the right side. Right front to be specific. But sometimes sounds play with your ears.

Just a thought...

Could it be that some problems are related to the fact that there is a small "pocket" in the inner stub, in which a ball bearing can fit half way. Is it possible that blocking the bearing from going into the groove of the second spacer is limiting the maximum travel that the axle can make?

here's my new spacer

Machined from a alltrac stub with a ring in behind to fill in the gap. It's so close you can hardly see it. Notice the two shades of metal at the back. The ring is machined to fit into the lip of the long MR2 inner stub.
The whole thing (w/o counting in the lip) is 1/2". Hopefully it is the right size. The idea was to keep the design exactly as it was before with the pocket in the inner axle but moved ahead 1/2". If I don't get tied up too much I should have it on this weekend. I'll let you know how it works out.

Thats pretty much what I did. Its worked out well so far. I used the factory spacer and cut a section 1/2" off the end. Then I put that on the brake lathe and machined it so it would fit into the hub of the mr2 inner. Good luck.

with the 1/2" spacer the camber is off and the tire wears badly on the inside and keep in mind that the car is lowered with eibach sportlines and running 18" wheels.

The axle wont affect camber unless you are loosining everything and cramming the axle into the hub. With it lowered you may not need a spacer.

at one point in time, someone on here mentioned just using the camry (or was it solara?) axles. wonder how much truth there was to it.
