Hi all,
I just got my ST205 half cut and it came with ABS. The question is, is it better to go ahead and install it on my ST202? any reliability problems, brakes jamming...etc thx |

if you dont have abs in the car then it would be a massive job to install it ( you cant just have abs in the front)
ill take the front sensors off you if you dont want them. -------------------- ST205 Group A Rallye GT-Four, #61 of 77............600hp GT3582r

i dunno but you dont have the rear abs things so i would say its useless??? do you really need abs? The H/C came with the rear rotors and calipers + ABS Sensors, i just have to modify the solid metal hose going to the rear... do i need it? i would say yes, it rains alot down here My concern was its reliability... if you dont have abs in the car then it would be a massive job to install it ( you cant just have abs in the front) ill take the front sensors off you if you dont want them. installation is no issue, reliability and effectiveness are...thats why i need feedback from the dudes whom are using it This post has been edited by zeus83: Aug 21, 2009 - 12:54 AM |

Abs on a celica is very reliable i have it on my ST.
Be careful if you want to take the sensors out of the hub, i wrecked mine when i replaced the wheel bearing and they are very expensive parts. |

I duno if the 202's have the same abs units as the 205s (when they are factory abs i mean) The 205 abs has g sensors in the stepper motor that can diffrentiate between cornering and straight line breaking and hence give the correct ammount of braking force to the correct wheels at the correct time. Toyota called it "sports abs" and was pretty advanced for 1994. -------------------- ST205 Group A Rallye GT-Four, #61 of 77............600hp GT3582r

American ABS brake system for ST204 have completely different part #. whats the benefit of the sport ABS found on Japanese celicas -------------------- Group buy to replicate Narrow E series transaxle parts

Isnt this called TRC? I know Japan spec Celicas have TRC and TRC OFF light in gauge cluster. I dont think ABS is able to help cornering.
From wiki: QUOTE Typically, traction control systems share the electro-hydraulic brake actuator (but does not use the conventional master cylinder and servo), and wheel speed sensors with ABS.

I've read about the ABS control system from the GT-Four using additional input from accelerometers, and not only wheel speed sensor input.
I'm guessing with the accelerometers, the control system takes corner weight due to weight transfer into account so the pumping frequency of the abs can vary based on how loaded each tire is for better performance. just a guess. -------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
