turnip can You put point by point problems you need to solve ??

is not easy track conversation , is not clear what is done and what you need to fix ...

1. idlle problem -- status ?
2. rpm gauge -- status ??
etc.

At this point the only issue I have is lack of $$$ and time. Appreciate the offer to help. Im sure something will pop up once I get it ready to start beating on it. Right now I just need to get it back together.

No need for no MSD/Dakota Digital gender-bending Tach signal bruhaha if you are using the BEAMS gauges...

RedTop swapped in my 92 Celica Convertible with the BEAMS gauges works just fine, thank you very nice....did the wiring meself too!

Engine is back in and before I had a chance to get everything back together I tore my rotator cuff. Getting an MRI this week and seeing the specialist. Hoping my neighbor will stop down this week to put in the cross member support and the two middle motor mounts. Need to put a new fuel filter on as well. Then I will check everything before throwing the axles back in.

Crank pulley will be here in a two weeks hopefully. Will post up some updates as soon as I have them.

I have had some chronic impingement issues from playing volleyball but I actually hurt it getting up off the floor after playing with my 6 mo old daughter. Go figure.

OUCH!

I know the pain. Done my right one in 5 years ago wrestling in the living room with my son.
I am now finally at the point where it no longer bothers me.

Neighbor stopped down and help me put it back together at least enought to fire it up. Skipped changing the fuel filter as I could not get it to free up without twisting the line off. Will see what happens but will probably cut it off completely and when I upgrade the fuel system this winter. Started right up and sounded good. I am hopeful to finish it up this weekend and take it out for a spin.

Then comes the fun part. Gutting it to the bone and installing cage. Will be sure to document that as its the fun stuff as I enjoy welding and fabricating. Probably gonna whack the whole top off and re-weld it on later after the cage is in.

I have the stock air box, but its been cut from where the MAF adapter is. If you think you can rig up something to reattach or use one of those rubber intake connectors to work then its all yours plus shipping of course. I'll take some pictures of it when I get back home.

Well had the car out on the road today. Left it warm up for about 15 minutes to make sure everything was working properly. Idle was solid but a little high before the drive after the drive it idled but it was surging from 1k to 2k wiith the aftermarket intake and no hood. Reset the ecu and was good again until I drove it again. I suspect its getting too much air. Car ran good otherwise with a ton of power from what Im use to running. Any insights on the surging would be appreciated.

be careful running it lean, i heard its bad, the inside diameter needs to be exactly 70 mm

I am not worried about running lean at this point during the testing phase. I am running cam 2 which burn coolers and helps retard detonation if an engine is running lean. I know the AFM is very sensitive and I suspect it threw a code causing the surging i am experiencing now and or I have a vacuum leak. The stock elbow pipe that came with engine is basically 3" diameter and the intake slipped right in snug. inside diameter is about 2.95 so a little larger than 70mm. Is the stock airbox exactly 2.75??

only batman or turnip can tell you for sure, i dont have one.

puretone mentioned even the sard filter can make you run lean, IDK. i tought it would be a good idea at first, but its a mere 250 usd...

Okay below is a link to 4 videos of the idle issue. Its either vacuum or it doest like like the intake and it only appears to happen when it goes from open to closed loop when it warms up. Plus the idle surge changes when pressing the brake pedal. After trying multiple vacuum trouble shooting I am leaning towards intake AFM sensitivity. If I had the stock airbox I suspect I would not have an issue.

UPDATE: Spent the afternoon messing with it and it no longer is surging but idling high like 1800. Will see if that continues. Have any of you guys adjusted the idle screw or messed with the TPS sensor???

try adjusting the idle screw first to lower the rpm idling. if it still surge like that after temperature is warm enough then you might wan to check my post for solution to the issue I was having. I had to adjust timing. Athough in the begining it was doing the same as yours and it stopped after driving it for a while then i had issues with it shutting off during neutral. Read my post it'll explain the difficulties i had.
