I get the point on how it's "so much easier" to repair your Lude due to having friends. But any of your friends if they knew anything about car's would've told you this was a pass from the get go. How bad is the rust? Not a visible rust but the stuff behind and under the frame? How long to you think that CV boot is gonna hold?
I'm not "flaming" because I have nothing better to do or because it's not a Celica but telling you this because this is/will be a bad investment. Things you know are wrong -Rust needs to be repaired but on this car who knows how bad it's underneath -Cv Boot/axle repaired -Bumper -Fender -PS corner light -Windshield -Running on 3 pistons? Let's see if you'll actually repair it, if you do good for you. Things you should change when getting a used car -All liquids, coolant, oil, trans, etc etc -Timing belt -Might as well do the water pump and thermostat -Filters -Spark Plugs and wires -Tires look about done, well your rear ones so start looking for replacements once your front ones finish up -Brake pads -etc And how bout the suprises everyone get's when the previous owner isn't completely telling you all the known issues? Have fun finding out. Really wasn't trying to offend you, just trying to be honest. I myself know what it's like saying oh it's just gonna be a couple hundred dollars thats all. WRONG. Just on repairing the issue's I knew it had I spent say $1,005. And then I had to buy tires, liquids, timing, radiator and quickly I was at the $2k range. And I still have to spend on the suspension, since it's worn out. I know I've bought other stuff that really wasn't necessary but this is gonna be my DD so I might as well repair everything I can now before it's on the road. Having another car to drive helped me out alot so I could take my time repairing it. As for you this is your DD and you only current car, what are you gonna do when it fails on you? Are you able to have it down for sometime? Take a good look at the car, inspect it for a while and REALLY REALLY think about it, is it worth putting money into this? If anything I would part or sell this car and put it into the Celica, once again not because it;s a Celica and this is a Celica forum. If it were the other way around say the Celica was the one you just bought and the Prelude was the one you painted grey and white I would say to sell the Celi and put that cash in the lude. -------------------- 1996 Toyota Celica ST 25th Anni. It may smoke your 7afe, but won't smoke a GT. Trust me, I know from experience. 3 nights to be exact. But good luck with your HONDA

It's been stated...but I don't think this was all that smart of a decision. If the engine was running completely well, then yes, you could forgo having a nice-looking car because it actually runs when the Celica doesn't. But I mean, it's not that strong on either part...there's a lot of exterior work to do and the engine is on 3 cylinders.
Having said that, good luck with fixing her up. -------------------- '97 ST \ Eibach \ KYB \ Kenwood \ Alpine \ Cusco \ OEM+ [sold 10/18]

Celica don't. What's wierd is it only acts like that on idle, but once u actually give it gas it's fine. Really wierd. Even still I may do a small rebuild, but my friends said they'll charge me for the toyota, but not honda (they know what the hell they are doing with the f22). So I kinda save $.. Oh well. I want to trade the prelude for a celica down the line sometime. -------------------- I still own my celica, but i'm parting it out and junking it.. Or selling as a whole. Have a honda prelude now :(

The Prelude may have problems, but the Celica has problems too. I see where you are coming from, having a running vs. non running car. Parents don't always see things the way kids do, so if your dad really said get rid of the Celica, then do what he says. That's unavoidable. I say don't touch the motor in the 'Lude. Just buy your friend's motor, the one you can get for $50, and have them swap it in. Have a rust bucket that will run well. Get the car running reliably for cheap (that's a benefit of Honda's. Motors are everywhere, everyone knows how to work on them. It's all cheap.) then repair the body, starting with that front bumper. I don't know about Ohio, but that's a ticket here. I'm not even sure if there's a law for that here, but cops get bored. But fix the 'Lude up, get it running right, then worry about frame rust and other issues after the car is safe to drive. If other issues arise, then save some money, sell the car, and upgrade. You paid $500 for the car, semi-running. Put your friend's motor in the car and you shouldn't have any problems getting your money back out of it to move on to something else. That's what I would do, if I was in your position.

Do you even have the money for a project car? You should look at yourself first and ask your self. Am I a mechanic? Do I know Hondas? DO I HAVE THE MONEY?
if you answer no to any of those questions your better off to junk the car or get rid of it cause it will only drag you down. |

Vtec is for pussies imo. You DO realize that Toyota has their version of "vtec"....vvtL-i. Honestly dude. I know you probably want a sporty looking car to drive around, but to me, it sounds like you just need a reliable source of transportation. Why would you buy that poorly-running, rotting Honda when you could have bought a decent Corolla, Prism (corolla in denial), or Civic for just a few hundred bucks more? A Prelude with all the problems that it has is not going to be a reliable daily driver for you. You are going to have to throw twice into that car just to get it road worthy than had you spent a few hundred more and bought a car to get you from point A to point B. lmao your never gonna get your money back outa that lude, imo that guy seen you coming... from the looks of the rust on the out side i can just imagine what ur floors and sub frame look like....my question is why is ur dad so against the celica? lol did he not see what you brought home??? "he dad check it out! bought my self a rust bucket thats running on 3cyl's that needs a ton of work!" way better then that celica i guess.... in all honesty my opinon wouldnt change if this wasnt a celica forum....like cam said you should have just bought something reliable that didnt need work, then down the line you could banked money and bought a sporty car again.... you friends need to learn more about cars....hondas and toyota's...pretty much every thing from japan aint that hard to work on, except for the few pain in the a$$ cars.... iv worked on preludes of this gen and i find them harder to work on then any other car iv wrenched on...
any who....oh and also 50 bucks for a motor....you seem to think that will solve those issues....its prolly 50 bucks for a reason yea know -------------------- i hate snow, missing my celica |

Well, the only rust is the quarters. Normal honda rust. I know the prelude needs work. But I can't keep celica. I don't mind project cars. Biggest thing with the prelude is it has 100k less miles than celica, and its the same year. Idk, just my 0.01 I guess. I needed something that moved for cheap, and I could fix rather cheaply. The celica is a LOT more money to fix than honda. The rust i couldn't give a **** about right now tbh.
