well I don't know but I bet the HKS timing belt is stronger, supposedly its made of kevlar whereas the OEM is probably just rubber...

I asked a mechanic to quote me on how much it would be to do the swap and he told me he didn't want to do it cuz it was too much work lol. How much more do you have to do compared to a straight swap with another 5sfe????? Anyone out there interested in doin a swap????

Congrats. If you where in MD I would offer to help. Good Luck and just be sure to have a lot of bolt containers and label them and your job will be much easier putting it back together.

dude, even with the stock airbox, i envy you, check all sensors, to be there, vvti, tps, vacuum, o2, and that they are not broken

I don't know anything about where those sensors are at...I know 02 is probably somewhere on the exhaust manifold...

figuring out how to get the beams harness thru the firewall, and doing the wiring are the only diffrences.
everything mounts up the same way, in the same locations, as far as the motors are concerned.

the gt ac lines bolted up on dustin and steffs car, as well as the power steering.
the only vac lines that go from motor to chassis are the brake booster, and the charcole canister.
your mechanic is being shyed away by the fact you wanna install a motor that he has never seen or prolly heard of.
most normal, everyday mechanics would say the same things.
i never, ever recommend having a normal mechanic do these kind of motor swaps, it almost always turns out bad in one way or another.

YEah the mechanic is my dad's friend, he's supposedly put a toyota engine in a ford truck and other crazy stuff but he just said he is too old to be doing swaps lol He told me I could do it and learn but it would take time. I have no experience in anything other than changing breaks and doing tune-ups.

I can't figure out how to install the clutch master cyl. though because there are no markings on the firewall and the sticky in this forum is missing the pictures. I think I'll start with the auto to Manual conversion first does that sound like a good idea?

Here's what I did today since I got a flat tire and couldn't make it to work...

The shifter has a bunch of connections that I don't know what they do...




Getting this out was a pain in the @!


This is the stereo amp.


and the ABS thingy


auto to manual swap!


got the break pedal done! this was a piece of cake! all you have to do is remove 1 bolt and a pin then install the new pedal, put the pin and bolt back in and thats it!



Installing the clutch will be super easy as well cuz everything is already marked! This is where the clutch master cyl goes.

and this is where the pedal assembly is bolted to as well, notice the gray screw already in place.

It was really easy, I thought it was going to be harder but its not. I still have some minor details to clean up so that it looks better (i need a rubber washer for the clutch master cyl.) and then I'll post pictures... I have no experience at all with major mechanical work! I totally did not know what I was doing but its pretty self explanatory once you get down to it! I don't have a lot of tools either just a 69 piece tool set from home depot, a drill (only for the holes in the firewall) and a jack and jackstands and that was it. So yeah anyone can do it. I'll post pics when i get a chance.

the auto to manual conversion really is not that big a deal at all once you get in and working on it.

Hey I was looking at the two different face gauges and the ones that I have to swap for the BEAMS conversion (Tach) fits in the GT face gauge perfectly but if you look at the circuit board there are some major differences. Does anyone know if all I have to do is swap the tach straight out and thats it or do I have to do anything else?

the tach and fuel is supposed to be a straight swap. the wiring is easy, i just made it look complicate lol. but is really not.

you need to get a engine crane and voila.
