So this guy is selling this car, but I have no idea where he is getting 18k for what it's worth?

Here is the ad:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1853647

Does this seem like good pricing to you? I was thinking like somewhere near 10-12 would be a bit more appropriate.

Anyways I know this isnt a classic celica forum, but what do you think?
here are some pics:

That interior has either been kept up unusually well, or has been recreated through restoration. That's probably where your cost is coming from. You'd be hard pressed to find a Celica of that year in that good of condition...ever.

still though, 18k? The shell is probably 1k, swap is probably 5-6k including tranny, and cluster and labor (thats a highball on that), seats are like $200 max for both, Cage is maybe $200, Coilovers like that go for about 800 used, 1200 new I think, LSD probably was 600, AEM's go for about 1500 maybe? (im not too sure on the standalone aem's), T3 Rca's are about 120 new, wheels are probably worth like 1k for all 8 with the tires on them, and that is the majority of what he has on the car. Really clean interior umm I will add 500 to the shell for that. Only comes to about

$11,920 or so? (Did the math in my head)

just depends on what you think it's worth. our cars go for any from $800 to $7000 for a mint, but most are really worth only 2-3k. same with those old skool celis. the cars are really not worth much, like Tanuki said, around 1k for shell, that's how much i got mine for. but the s2k swap is probably what's making the cost up on this one. it's actually a well known swap and a well known car on the classic celi forums.

Do you think 18 is a pipe dream? Plus keep in mind he probably bought it with all the work done for less than he is asking and that was a few years ago.

I know I am being skeptical, but for 18k there are some insane ae86's that would run circles around this.

*The reason I ask is he is wanting to trade me + cash on his end for my sti, and I feel like that is quite a lot he wants unless I start charging extreme premiums on the parts on my car. My wheels alone were $3600 wink.gif

You can ask anything you want on anything you sell, the question is what this would be worth. I would highly doubt you would find anyone who thinks this is WORTH 18k. That is why I am posting is to see what others aside from myself would think this would be worth.

That's the Diablo Celica, it is VERY well known Celica and is practically perfect in every way. Plus he is including a set of steel smiley bumpers with the brackets and panels. The bumpers alone without the panels can fetch around $1,000. The crack free dash is just priceless, it's incredibly rare to find a first gen Celica without a cracked dash. He is asking 18k OBO, so throw him an offer if you're interested.

he says very flexible on the price so just talk him down to what you think it's worth then.

I would not trade my STI/WRX for that. That's for sure... He is dreaming to get that price haha. I don't care how good shape it's in. You make a 94 GT worth 10k and try to sell it for 10k...you better find someone that stupid. Either way it's an amazing old school Celica. Certainly one of a kind as for as I know.

So this is where I am at.

2008 STI

13,000 miles

NADA Books at: $29,525

As for parts the car has:

VOLK TE37 18x9.5 +22 Offset

MSRP:$3620

Tein Monoflex Coilovers:

MSRP: $2300

Chargespeed Bottom Line Front Lip

MSRP: $409.99

Rally Armor UR Flaps

MSRP $140 (I think, their site is down right now)

Pioneer F900BT Double Din

MSRP $1099

OEM Cargo Tray

MSRP $69.99

All Weather Mats:

MSRP: $59.99

Project Kics R40's

MSRP $300

In addition I have the gold BBS, Hankook Ice Bear Snow Tires, Tint, Clear bra on hood, full bumper, headlights, fender splash guards, mirrors

+NADA doesnt take into account the added options like BBS, etc. Original sticker was 40k

I am asking only $31,500 for everything on it so basically there are about 8k in parts you are getting for 2k at that price. The wheels sell used for about $2600.

Basically if you were to take my sticker price and everything at msrp my car is worth 50k, but I realize that resale of cars and parts does not work that way. I agree that this is rare and very nice, but I am having a hard time seeing where the 18 comes into play. I think he is probably a reasonable guy, so I will discuss it with him as well, but I wanted to get some backbone on this. I dont wanna low ball him, and I dont want to be low balled. Thats all.

well my opinion is not worth it. with a 2jz engine maybe, not with a vtec engine, plus resale value is not good, its extemely modified, not good taste,

IMO i rather get a 1200 celica and build up to my specs, that to get this one.

well the fact is god knows what flaws it has with the conversion, you just never know, i mean, when it comes with custom fabrication, what happens if it breaks?

but when you know the sources, then you can go back to them. This car priced at 8000$ maybe i consider, but there are nice looking not modified celicas at 5,000$ completely restored.

Imagine what you can do with a 1000 buck rusted celica and 17K$ for mods, yeah, wipe off that drool, I saw you. laugh.gif

Not even an original Toyota engine. Its pretty much a S2000 in a Celica shell. For this price I could already get a S2000 and know its reliable without having to know what the original owner did to it.
