I just bought 94 Celica gt hatchback and it has no heat being that its December this is a bit of a concern! I bought it from a friend and so far we have burped the coolant and tomorrow we will be changing the thermostat but if that doesnt work are there any suggestions?

heater core is leaking, does the air smell like antifreeze?

I'm not smelling any antifreeze, how would i check for this? are there any other possibilities?

have the car up to operating temp and touch the hoses going to the heater core on the fire wall. You could also pull up on the carpet on the passenger side to see if there is coolant puddling up on the floor pan.

Look at the heater valve on the fire wall to see if the valve is actually open. The little thing that has a metal cable attached to it. should be towards the firewall. If its not towards the firewall its stuck closed not allowing heat to flow into the heater core. The valve should have a heater hose coming from the coolant pipes and then going into the firewall.

Replacing your thermostat will probably do the trick. If your heater core were leaking, you'd know it, there'd be no mistaking the smell of antifreeze in your car.

flush your radiator, maybe you've got a clog to the heater core

And for the 7th gen guy (actually for both of you) are you sure you're letting the car run long enough? The whole country is in a huge cold snap right now, they take a while to get going and warm up before some heat comes out of it. Drive it around for 15 or 20 minutes and if the heat still doesn't come on, then continue investigating. Make sure your A/C isn't on too lol

you might have a clogged heater core like griff said. But why would both the inlet hose and return hose be hot? If its clogged coolant will go to the heater core, but can't return. Check to see if the valve is open, and that when you turn the heat on inside the car, its actually set on heat. The 4th gen celicas run into this issue.

Yeah i drove it for an hour on a highway last week through multible snowstorms with no heat the whole way I will check the valve (whenever I find it!) and i will get the oil and coolant flushed next week (after pay day!)

Is the heater core being bypassed alltogether? That would definitely give you no heat.

No he said that the hoses are going to the firewall. Unless someone took the time to pull the dash and take the heater core out and just put a loop behind the dash. But I highly doubt someone would go through the trouble of removing the dash and no replace a $50 piece.

there are two valves that have to be turned to get heat to the heater core... one is at the firewall like mentioned... the other is at the drivers right foot... it has a blue cable going to it... make sure its open as well...

MOST LIKELY the problem is an air bubble caught in the heater core

Yeah.. The valve inside the car basically opens up the heat. You will definitely here it open and close if you unlatch the cable. Just jack the car up, have the heat on full blast and try to get that air trapped inside out.

So i checked the first valve and its fine just read about the second valve I will look for that next, how would I get the bubble out just jack the car up, blow the heat and wait or is there more to it, also where should i jack it up front, back, left, right side?

Jack up the front or park on a incline or on ramps. Open the rad cap turn the car on and have the heat on full blast. If you did have air in the system when the thermostat opens up the air should come out. But the burping process might take a while.
