need help.
Its time to fix the paint job I had and this time I'm going for show car quality. I have been contemplating over color choice. Stick with same color or ferrari red, go white or pearl white, metallic gray, or chrome. I do like the chrome, but not sure what it would look like on our cars. I plan to have a shop do chrome on the gas door to see how good it would be, but if one of you guys good with photoshop can make my car chrome I would appreciate it. This is what it looks like now. This is the type of chrome I like. |

No, don't do chrome...just don't. If you really want to do something radical, try flat black. I understand show paint needs to be perfect, but yours still looks pretty damn good...so why not just buff, polish, etc. your existing paint?
Do stick with red though. Ferrari red would look good for sure. -------------------- '97 ST \ Eibach \ KYB \ Kenwood \ Alpine \ Cusco \ OEM+ [sold 10/18]

Chrome is INSANE! I mean... very different lol. I would definitely do the gas door first, and if you like it. Thats all that matters

clay bar is a must! it brings old paint back to life. i really like the meguiars stuff. red looks good; if you plan on painting you'd have less work involved by keeping it red!... good luck. report back with your decision.

thanks for the opinion guys -- not sure what color I really want - just that after having the car red, which is its original color gets boring after a while and a color change would feel like I'd be driving a new car. Chrome would definitely stand out too much but thats the kind of direction I want to go. I really want to make the 6gc be recognized.
I should have time off of work tomorrow to get back home and visit the body shop. It looks good in that picture because that was like a month after the paint job. Come to find out that I was ripped off and the guy who did the work did not put primer on many areas causing paint to chip real easily. Once I confronted him about it - he didn't deny it and said to bring it back to him and he would fix it, but since he cheated me once - I'm not wasting my time with the guy again. Not 100% sure of color choice, but we'll see what happens. |

I brought it back and they denied it all. they were like must've been something done before we got it. hahah yeah, right. but they did it right the second time so i'm happy. -------------------- *1997 Celica ST - 3SGE Greytop BEAMS *1977 Celica RA29 - Classic Cruiser *2005 Matrix AWD - dedded but still hanging around like a ghost 2019 Rav4 XLE Premium - Sports mode is fun. |

First of all "Chrome" from what I heard is an illegal color cause it can cause massive sun reflection and blind other drivers ahead or behind for from the side. I know this cause my friend's father has a 86 Monte Carlo SS painted chrome and was pulled over and had to have the car towed cause a few driver's called the police while they were driving, I guess and complained about blinding sight. He drove it to and from the local car show for 4 weeks before getting a nice ticket for it. Now as for paint I'm always gonna suggest the nasty/sexy "metallic Grey". It would look simply sex with the GT-Four front end and hood. Although I don't like Red I have to say it looks very nice on your car. You can keep the current color and save $$$ and get some more nice mods for it. Or get a different paint job, but I'm gonna have to say go with the "metallic Grey". Just my opinion on this subject.
Great car. Oh btw I see you have the same problem I have with the GT-4 hood not sitting flush on the passenger side and sticking up a little. I'm still trying to find a solution with that. Does your hood close and lock easily? & pops up high enough when you pop the hood? |

please don't do chrome...but i am liking this flat black idea...oooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr you could repaint it something else and get that vinyl wrapped flat black stuff to protect the nice paint. then when you get bored with the flat you peel it off and WHAM! different, brand new color.
just sayin |

The last local meet we had in my area, one of the guys recommended a body shop that normally works on low riders. I got a chance to take the celica there today for an estimate and I think I got a pretty good price. $2400 for the entire car including jams and engine bay and minor body work to fix dents and a little front end frame correction. They also do custom interior work, so I'm definately gonna talk to them about that during the process. I decided to stick with red, but ferrari red
THe other guy that I was planning to take it to was going to charge me $2400 with no body work just paint body and jams and it'll take him a bit longer since does it on the side. Now gotta start clearing out the engine bay so they can come pick it up. Can't wait - I'll definately post pictures when I can. |
