Lowered my Celica, UPDATE* More Pics Options

So basically your saying tha ti may have it lined up correctly, but when i go to install it in the car, it may turn or shift to be incorrect? I don't really understand how it could be lost while tightening the strut rod nut, (thats the one at the top that keeps the spring compressed right? or how a pair of needle nose pliers would solve that problem.

Could you ellaborate more and possibly give a diagram?

Im almost positive that I alligned the bottom seats correctly.

damn that looks SO low for winnipeg streets. but looks nice though. i got 16 inch tires with 55 sidewall and it's riding like an SUV lol. perfect for winter. anywho your celi's looking nice. mine's getting painted black right now so i should have it back in a week to 10 days

Thats sick man, Maybe ill see you out on cruise night one of these days. Its actually not that low, the ride is Reallllly close tos tock and thats what I wanted. I didn't want it to be slammed either just to get rid of some of the wheel well gap. I haven't bottomed out yet either surprisingly, not even on speedbumps. Next up is rims, I can't wait hahaha. Isn't yours lowered too?

The diagram is already in this thread, and the issue with the proper alignment of the top spring seat is even highlighted in it. The bent needlenose pliers can hold the seat in correct alignment while you install it.

No I'm actually riding stock height. I changed my tires from 45s to 55s though so it sits a little heigher now lol. Kinda got rid f the gap a little. Looks like I'm ready to go rally haha

Haha yea Im pretty sure i have like 55 or 60's on my car. When I bought it it had 5o's on it from the dealership, then I bought some cheap celica rims and tires off a buddy of mine, and they were even bigger but I just needed something to last me till i got rims so I didn't really care.

Can anyone tell me if this popping issue is going to cause any damage if I don't fix it immediately?

it's really an easy fix. jack the car, undo the top 3 12mm nuts to drop the strut, realign the top metal seat plate & spring, put nuts back, drop. takes less than 30 mins. i don't think it'll do damage within a short period, but it sure as hell is very annoying!

i found another pic that might help you better stand. this is my old suspension setup.



the top spring seat plate and the bottom should be aligned like this ^. i'm willing to bet your top spring seat plate is not aligned with the bottom and is stuck against the inside of the strut tower.

Sorry I'm kinda slow with this, its really the first major mod I've done on my car. So the top seat and bottom seat have arrows on them, and they both have to be pointing to the outside of the car?

Could i just unbolt teh three 12mm on the top, and then spin the whole mount, and that should fix it?

The lower seat doesnt have an arrow, because it can only sit one way (otherwise how would you be able to bolt the knuckle back to it?)

the top hat has an arrow and says "OUT". Line this arrow up with the knuckle bracket on the bottom, so that the arrow is pointing away from the car.

Similar to this, but three studs.

Ohh okay that makes sense. So lining up the end of the coil with the groove on the underside of teh mount doesn't really matter? Or does that just mean my mounts are worn out?

By lining up the arrow with the knuckle braket on the bottom, the clunking should go away??

Hmmm...my S-Techs don't clunk but they do have the hooptie sound going on when I turn the wheel when the car is not running.

I mean that when I turn the wheel, the springs sound. Just that high-pitched squeal from the springs. Shouldn't the car be quiet when turning the wheel?

Yea, Im pretty sure mine just clunk because I didn't place the arrows on the mount facing th outside. I haven't got aroundd to fixing it, but its quieted down quite a bit and doens't do it a whole lot anymore

I have the same problem. I bought kyb struts awhile back and then decided to lower it. Coilovers seems a little expensive at $900 a set. So i bought drop zone coilover sleeves. Did have to grind down the rear struts nuts so the sleeve would sit all the way down. Keep in mind the springs that came with the kit are about twice as short as the stock springs. And flat on both sides, the sleeve had the ring plates on it for a seating surface. It also came with a metal ring the sat below the strut nut and the upper bracket for the top part of the spring. Would this setup, would the arrow not being outside cause the load clanking?

I'm not to sure. but from what most of the stuff I read thats what my problem is, but I haven't got around to fixing it. I don't really know anything about coilover sleeves, but its quite possible that's what your problem is.

Yea, it was. Last week i jacked my car up, i had to pull the full strut assembly out in order to see the arrows, cleaned them up a little bit and put them back in. Ever sense i havent head a singal CLUNK. Yea you do get a very faint noise of tension in the spring, but nothing youll be embarressed about having people hear.
