So im in serious need of help with this car. Apparently whom ever i bought it from put in a COMPLETELY different engine and put a 2.2 valve cover on it or something. Anyways my cars been in the shop for a good month now with me and the mechanics trying to figure out what is wrong with it. So we replaced the dizzy, plugs wires basically everything even tryed a new harness still does the same thing!!.. So we took it to Toyota and they even told me that my car whom ever did the swap was a idiot and cut and spliced wires to grounds, other hot wires ext. There are so many wires that are cut that dont even go to anything its just a complete cluster F***. I REALLY dont want to sell my Celi, so my question is If i were to buy a BEAMs like i want that comes with the entire harness, trans, ecu, air box, sensors, ext. Would this fix my wiring problem !? I d ont want to buy this engine and it still does the same thing i love my car but if i cant figure out whats wrong with it im going to part it out or just sell it as a whole.
PLEASE someone help me im desperate. ! I love my car and i dont want to get rid of it ! . |

Could you post a picture of the engine? It's not like valve covers fit everywhere. If it's a 5S valve cover, it has to be a 5S.

If it's a 2.0, then it's a 3S-GE, 3S-FE, or 3S-GTE. It's most likely the former two, but I'm not sure if the 5S valve cover can fit on a 3S-FE, I don't think so...

Please post a pic of the engine bay.
Then go ahead and swap a BEAMS in anyway -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. Even Socrates told us to use the search button!

Two things would really help us help you: 1. post multiple, good quality pictures of the engine bay, including shots of problem areas you think you might have. 2. describe your "electrical" problems in detail. Doing any kind of swap (beams or whatever) often comes with its own set of headaches. Its usually easier to try to fix whatever problem you are having first. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

I honestly dont know what to take pictures of. Its something electrical i know for fact, only 1 plug is firing. I've literally done everything imaginable to try and fix it. Nothing works, you name it I've done it.

FYI, if you buy a beams clip, harness, wiring and everything...you'd just swap in the motor with the harness and you'd toss the 5S-FE wiring harness, part out the 5S-FE. You'd basically empty the engine bay minus the tranny, since the motor should mate with the transmission.
That is, if I understand swaps correctly, seeing as I've never done one - only looked through threads here. -------------------- |

Seriously, if you've got to pull your motor out anyway, you might as well drop a better one back in. The BEAMS is a very capable engine. There isn't a huge difference in power between the 7A-FE and the 5S-FE, but if you've ever driven a Celica with both then you know how much of a difference only a few hp can make. Now take that from 135 hp from the 5S on up to 200 from BEAMS and you've got a quick, reliable car.

Jumpin, if the wiring has only been altered on the engine harness....and the body harness has not been messed with, then Yes. A swap will fix your wiring issues (again, thats if ALL your issues are with you existing ENGINE harness).

Wouldn't it be the engine harness thats messed up, since its only firing on one spark plug now ? |

Yes it sounds as tho it is the engine harness, but double check to make sure that the body harness looks untouched. The engine harness "plugs" into the body harness under the fusebox in the engine bay, and 3 connectors on the side of ECU. Just look around and see if looks like it has been tampered with (most likely not, but its good to check). Once you have verified your body harness is untouched, rest assured your problems will be fixed with the new harness.
