has anyone completely removed their egr system. i live in fl so i dont have to worry about inspections. the reason i ask is because i need to know if the car will run fine without it. i removed the egr system on my 94 tt supra and put a resistor in line to trick the computer into thinking its hooked up. so if anyone has, what resistor is needed. also i have a sensor that im pretty sure was connected to the system and i wanted to know if this needs to be plugged in in order for the car to run. i have a post on here already about the problems im having with the motor and i just to see if anyone else has removed their egr. thanks

remove it, plug it up, bridge the 2 wires together that go to the temp sensor in the egr.

thanks. after i put the engine back in there was a 2 wire connector that wasnt plugged in to anything. so im guessing that is for the temp sensor your talking about. the wire is coming up from the bottom and reaches to the fire wall about center of the intake manny.

Temp sensor? does the 7A have something that the 5S dont? i dont recall any temp sensors in either EGR system

well my engine is a 5s. i know that the plug im talking about used to go to a sensor that had a vacume line going to it. if anything i will get a pic and post it up on tuesday.

well my car is throwing a code for the egr that i removed. does any one know what size resistor to put in that plug. or should i just connect the two wires like batman says. just want to be sure. like i said my supra needed a resistor.

my check engine light came on a few months after I did smog on my st celica. And I plugged in my code reader and we looked up the code with the help of my neighbor mechanic and he told me it was the egr. He lifted out the egr and there is a little burn mark in black about 2mm in diameter. he said Its nothing I should worry about. But I just took a trip to sacramento and I noticed that I only got 413 miles on a full tank of gas!!! I was going 80mph the whole way. If the egr is not working properly will I get lower gas mileage! 413 miles for a full tank on an st celica isnt the greatest!

I'm not sure how it will effect the mpg. I removed it off the supra and didn't really notice any loss in mpg but then again I already only get 16-18 mpg in the city. The egr is just exhaust gas return. It takes some of the gases coming out of your exhaust and "recycles" it back in tge combustion chamber to burn off and excess fuel that didn't get used the first time around. I quess it could affect you mpg but I really can't see it being a whole lot. Just my two cents.

It doesn't affect anything besides of stop & go driving. It's definitely not going to affect fuel economy at cruising speeds, nor is it going to affect performance at WOT. It only really affects stop & and go driving conditions... which is a moot point overall imo. Waste of time an effort.

oh so consider this, my 7afe is close to 100% running perfectly, it has 126,000 miles. So 413 for a full tank of gas and lets say I didnt use the whole tank of gas but I used 14.5 gal. so 413 divided by 14.5 gallons equals 28 miles per gallon. which is pretty ****ty!!

well batman u are the man. i bridged the two terminals, erased the code and the check engine light has not come on since. thanks. and i hope my 5sfe gets 28 mpg i would be over joyed. i know when i had my coupe with the 7afe i was getting like 28-30 mpg. i dont think its that bad.

ok first its a 14 gal tank...
second... 32 highway was the stock brand new mpg
third... going 80 mph is going to kill your mpg, anything above 50 is going to drop it a lot, verified by technical chart above smile.gif
