My 2nd upgrade in 10 yrs was from Nokia to the 3G iPhone last year. Yup, behind the dark ages here!!... wink.gif
We don't have 3G signal here, but @ work & 20 miles in any direction, there is 3G.

With the 1st 2 Nokias, I had VERY few dropped calls---this iPhone drops calls passing by those windmill turbines,
or driving thru down town. We don't have any buildings higher than 3 floors!!!

Going on-line is nice, but it seems to be getting slower, even in 3G with full signal!!
Pics are pretty much true-life colors! Games are decent.

I know 3G is outdated already, but I can't see upgrading to a " better " device if we can't even have old tech keep up with progress!!... frown.gif

Dude I've had my iPhone 4 for like 2 days I got mine on the 23rd and this phone is amazing, it's like 10 3GS in one. It's fast there is no lag in the app store or keyboard it's just amazing. I'm just scared I'm going to drop it lol

I don't really like it. My coworker got his in the mail today. The screen is the best part of the entire phone. The whole iphone os is very dumbed down. They're just now trying to include things that android did out of the box almost two years ago.

And there are already problems pouring in about the yellowing, the signal dropping (which I was easily able to replicate due to being left handed), the scratches in this "super durable" gorilla glass, etc.

ive been playing with my friend htc evo phone, and i hate to say that I believe it trumps the iphone. Apple used to be the innovators but they have been surpassed now.

I know someone with an Evo as well. It's a nice phone but I don't see the areas in which Apple has been surpassed. Please share.

Apple, the masters of engineered obsoleteness. Design a super expensive product, make everyone think they need it, then make it completely obsolete by the new and cool product in a year or less.

I just can't believe the people that buy all that stuff and think they have to have every little new piece of equipment Apple makes. I have a few friends that have almost every generation of Ipods, Iphones, Macbook Pro's, etc. They just look at the old models like it's a piece of trash, whether it works or not.

Can't blame Apple for catering to people who NEED to update every year. I have a 5th gen iPod, I've had it for 4 yrs, haven't upgraded. I had a 3G (for sale wink.gif), skipped the 3GS upgrade, and got this one. So you can't really get mad at a company when supply is a result of demand. Be mad at people.

I'm just wondering what was yellowing ? Mine works just fine the screen is amazing. In my opinion once you have a iPhone you can't have any other phone. Atleast I can't. There really isn't much sufferer with the iPhone 4, the screen is amazing and there's a camera on the front, and it's faster in texts and app store no more lag. That's the only thing I can see that's new.

how does the evo beat the iPhone 4?
screen size?
cause i love carrying a retardedly big phone that people accidentally push buttons all the time. rolleyes.gif
also the resolution on the iPhone 4 is better than the Evo. The Retina Display is bar none the best screen out for a phone.

camera?
so you have 8MP compared to 5MP, but the quality of pictures from an Evo suck when put up next to a picture from an iPhone 4.
http://www.macrumors.com/2010/06/25/iphone...ties-evaluated/
there ya go. only things that beat the iPhone 4 at taking pictures are you guessed it, actual cameras.

4G data?
wow hope ya live in one of the 14 cities that have OKish service, otherwise your are on 3G.

Multitasking?
sure Android did it first, iOS does it right wink.gif
(granted the 3rd party apps need to update to handle this for the most part)

Apps?

App store: 200,000+
Android market place: 50,000
you decide who has a better choice

Video:
please see the link above. (evo comes in last for video)

so how do you figure its better?

I currently own a 3g, so I will get the iphone 4 because it will be compatible with all my current stuff ( calendar, music, 3rd party apps ) but in all honestly apple needs to step up the game, by a lot, Droid phones are catching up QUICK, I think droid phones have everything needed to be better, they just need better marketing and a bigger share of the pie for the developers to motivate them to develop more apps.

everything the iphone 4 does are ideas that came from jailbroken phones, multitasking ? backgrounder, video calling / Knocking live video, the folder for apps ? really ? I had that on my 2g, the only thing is really bringing new is a better display and the front / back camera. every other feature has been available on cydia. they are trying to advertise the ability to change the background, something that needed to be standard since the very first iphone, also available on Cydia.

and eventhough knocking live video is video ONLY, no sound, is available everywhere you go, unlike video calling which is available only on wifi.

almost forgot, yes it does have a 5.0 camera and HD quality video, but which smart phone doesn't have that nowadays ?

i would think that is a compliment. Apple is actually LISTENING to your problems instead of ignoring it. GO APPLE!! (yet i dont own any apple products LOL)

I think most people who say the HTC or the droid are better than the iPhone have never owned a iPhone, the iPhone is a must have it does everything those phones do time 10. Like he said above the app store is incredible, and the camera is flawless. Once you've had an iPhone there is no going back to any other phone. And if you want free apps just jailbreak the phone and install installous and wallah you have any app you want for free. The iPhone is the best phone out nothing will ever beat it. If verizon picks up the iphone I'm willing to bet NO ONE will be buying the droid anymore.

The Apple OS for the iPhone/iPod is never as intelligent as the Android and such.

I actually lined up last Friday and got one myself. The phone is an absolute beauty. As for the OS, since I'm an iPod Touch user for years, it's pretty much the same **** other than you can now actually call people, and get online without having to checking if there's wifi.

But so far I'm loving it for what it can do. And for the stuff that it can't do, I actually don't need them anyway.

I would love to own the iPhone 4, but I'm not eligible for an upgrade until July of next year and so I'm just gonna wait till the iPhone 5 comes out next June. I heard it'll have an 8MP camera and if the 4's 5MP already beats the Evo's 8MP, imagine what the 5's 8MP will look like laugh.gif
Besides, I have a 3GS and with the new OS4 upgrade, I'm loving it even more, it'll keep me entertained for another year

You do know if you have a iPhone 3GS you are eligible for a upgrade to the iPhone 4 for the first 6 months. That's what I did

I already checked. The Apple store said I could, but when I called AT&T to make sure, they said no frown.gif

Yea you're a year locked in. Can't upgrade till you past that 6 months left point.

3GS + iOS4 upgrade is pretty much iPhone 4. No one uses the front camera anyway... I don't want people to look at me ****ting while i'm talking to them on the phone.

Except for the faster processor, double the RAM, 5mp camera, "retina" display (which is a huge improvement), and better battery life.

Alright so I've had this phone for about 2 hours. so far I think it's awesome. It's a great upgrade from a 3G. All the little things the 3GS had, like compass and the faster speed, I've been doing with out.

First thing you notice is the screen. It's really quite nice. Biggest impact you can see is with text. It's crystal clear. GIGANTIC improvement.

The speed of the OS. Compared to the 3G this thing is lightning fast. 512mb of RAM helps.

The camera - BIG improvement. I had a 2.0mp and it was crap. 5.0 with autofocusing (touch screen where you want to focus) is great.

So far this thing is great.
im on your old boat. have a 3g running ios4 (runs slow at times). if i had the 3gs the decision to upgrade would be tougher. the only thing holding me back is ive been on tmo for over 5 years and have no complaints about their service or rates. i pay 75-80 with tax for unlimited minutes, messages, data. at&t seems so expensive to me. im having trouble justifying an extra 40 or so a month for 3g internet and limited minutes/messaging. im almost always on wi-fi anyway.

i would love the iphone 4 though. i might just end up getting a factory unlocked iphone 4 and sticking with tmo for a while longer. glad to hear you say its a big improvement overall.
