Hey guys,
I'd like to wrap up MotY officially with an aftermath thread. Please post pictures in the Media post MotY pics. I'd like to make my speech that I didn't/couldn't do at the meet. You people bounced from the site before we were done! Anyways, I want to start off by thanking the people that made this meet possible. Thanks to MaskedMan and CelicaST_CALI for helping out with the meet activities (as well as organizing the caravans). And despite banned from the site, CelicaST_CALI still had the dedication to follow through and help out at the meet. You, sir, have earned your 6GC stripes. Special thanks to MaskedMan for his excellent police diversion tactics and saving people with swaps/mods from potential tickets . I look forward in seeing your photo and movie masterpiece. ZEROCOOL (and ZC__6Gen), good job on the shirts designs and for making one helluva drive to get here. Everyone needs to thank him for efforts on bringing us the shirts. To the BBQ'ers, thanks for manning the grills for the rest of us (nnesto, eggman40, Prowzee, anyone else I missed) as well as everyone who brought food for the rest of us. It was a HOT day, so thanks to everyone who brought something to drink (we were COMPLETELY wiped out by the end, good thing you brought an extra case of water, Ty). I hope everyone enjoyed themselves, had fun with the activities, got some good pictures, and walked away with a good momento (or prize). I was busy the past few weeks, so I wasn't able to polish out the organization of the meet, but we still did most of what we planned to do. So please post comments, thoughts, and suggestions for the next meet! I'll post the full recap of the MotY as soon as I can borrow/steal people's pictures. For those who didn't show up for this meet, FAIL. You missed a good one. Recap (NorCal perspective): 3:15 AM: CelicaST_CALI texts me to wake up...I was already up by 2:45AM. I went to bed 3 hours before. NorCal meet was set at 6AM at Tracy, which is a 2 hour drive. Ugh...MotY has officially started. Suprisingly, I arrive first at the meet spot. About 2 minutes later, CelicaST_CALI arrives with GMHAPPY29 rolling in shortly afterwards. Then we begin our 5 hour drive. 6:32 AM: Along the way, the three of us decide to pull onto a vista point and take some pictures of the NorCal caravan which had been decimated to three cars. place holder Then the ride continues...place holder Making some good time, NorCal arrives down in Castaic around 10:32AM. We stop by the Rite Aid and (wisely) pick up another case of water and ice. We spot OwnDCelica as we pull out of the lot and meet up with ZEROCOOL who was sitting at the gas station where we filled up for gas. This is when we learn of MaskedMan's valiant run-in with the local police. I'll let MaskedMan give the details of the encounter. With NorCal finally assembled (all 4 of us ), we drive to the meet site and find that almost everyone had already arrived and were gathered around in the parking lot. 11:15AM place holder With Derrick nowhere to be seen, I quickly got introduced myself to everyone and began to organize the meet by getting things unloaded from the cars and brought down to the reserved picnic area. Place holder Because we were running a bit behind schedule, registration was sped up, t-shirts, name tags, and raffle tickets were handed out quickly to all of the attendees. --> (PLACE HOLDER for t-shirt pic) <-- Fortunately, Derrick decided to stop entertaining the cops for a second and show up. But with the lot filling up, the lone rogue convertible had to park by itself. (Place holder) FotY was cold. Freezing cold. I was sort of glad I didn't (couldn't) arrange for a model for that meet. But MotY needed one, and I provided one . And she drives a Celica too! (7th gen though ) place holder With this going on, we fired up the BBQ after some trouble with finding some matches. Good thing I brougth a torch . Too bad I didn't get a chance to eat some of the food...that chicken looked delicious! place holder As like before at FotY, MotY wouldn't be complete with a little fun and games. The "amazing chase" challenge returned, with the familiar driving skill test, 6GC quiz, and picture scavenger hunt. (place holder, can someone upload pics of the hunt they took?) Controversy over the quiz at FotY made me rethink this meet's quiz. So I merely asked people to match the 6GC screen names with the member's actual name. I'm disappointed in some of you, that you did not know who CAMAricer is It was on my name tag when I handed you the quiz! As for the driving challenge, parallel parking made it's return, with a slight change. Participants were asked to name a distance they wanted to attempt to parallel park into, with the results being timed. Cones were set up with distances being measured in the number of cones. The results were somewhat expected...some *ahem* people were better at this than others... The third activity was the picture scavenger hunt where participants were asked to locate various objects and locations around the park. They were given the choice between taking the North route (which was trickier, but shorter) or the South route (which was a hike, but slightly easier). Most teams that choose the Northern route missed one area. This was what most people missed, which was just the vantage point of the following pic. Place holder The Southern route pic that was missed the most was this one, which was hidden behind a small hill. ~3:30PM When all the members were finished, and the results were calculated (via an extremely complex forumula only know by yours truly), the final score was tallied and the winners with 21 points (out of 30) was Erynn and Jeff. Everyone who participated was awarded raffle tickets based on how many points they accumulated with 21 going to Erynn and Jeff and 2 going to Luis and Juan . We were pretty much beat up by now with most of the water/drinks gone. I noticed that my melons were still untouched so Craig busts out his muh chet tee (I think he meant to say machete) and axe and goes to town. (place holder, anyone took pictures of Craig and his blades?) Finally with everyone now back at the picnic area, we proceeded with the raffle. Congrats to the winners! Place holder It was getting late, so we cleaned up the area and headed to the parking lot for the group pics (both cars and members). Place holder And finally, for the people still around for the cruise, we headed for a short drive into the Angles National forest. And we found a nice spot to gather for another photo opp. Place holder 7:24PM NorCal had a 5 hour drive ahead of us, so we decided to cut early. (place holder, where are the pics for SoCal after we left the mountain?) 3:36AM I arrive home. Dead tired. Slept in my MotY shirt too. Dreaming about '11 FotY.
