ok so im going to rebuild my manual transmission

and i run into this problem where i have trouble finding transmission information

everything is not listed clearly.

i have a 98 celica GT 5sfe manual convertible

the info i need:
-what Transmission code do i currently have?

- what are my alternate transmission code options from other cars ?

-in what car do i find these other transmissions?

-i need transmission ratios..i see a page with ratios listed but does not tell me transmission code

-im looking to replacing my final ratio/ or 5th gear to a longer gear ratio. My car does a hair less then 4k RPM at cruise 70mph . Do all the parts in these transmission interchange?

- are there alternative gears i can use from other transmissions?

-Are engine/transmission mounts different in a convertible vs a hardtop

id like to build a manual transmission list and info on interchangeable parts since i am having a hard time looking for the info i need

the 5sfe usually comes with the s54 transmission. I dont think you'll be able to just change the gear ratios, cars aren't as simple as lego's unfortunately and theres alot to keep track of when mixing and matching parts. I would just swap in a better condition s54 instead.

if you want longer gear ratios then go with the e153 from an mr2/v6 camry/solara. with an mr2 e153 you will need to convert it to FWD, and you will need hybrid axles regardless of which e153 you find

i called a shop and they have an mr2 tranny for a 3s motor ....i guess it is the E153... i heard about this

but which hybrid axles will work ? does anyone know ? i saw some threads about it but i lost it

EDITED : ok so i did my research there are alot of opinions on this e153 tranny

everything is still unclear

-can i keep my 5sfe clutch and pressure plate ?

-can i use my 98 GT cables ?

-can i use my 98 GT mounts ?

-can i use the inner mr2 cv shafts and my 98 GT outer cv ?

i need an exact parts list to do the perfect swap the first time
