Hey gearheads (!holla)

Normally I'm in my own little world during startup in the morning.
Finish drinking coffee, thinking bout school/work/randoms.

Then I see fog in my rearview on a clear day... hunh?
I start watching every time, and on cold cold days, it smokes on startup.
About a car sized fogbank for the first 5 seconds, then it runs clear.

It's only 135 on the clock. What am I in for? Valve stems worn and leaking oil
into the cyls when shutdown? Can't be rings already? Gaskets?

So actions? Ignore? Compression test? Screw it and race til dead?

Its the 2.2 fwiw.

valve stem seals. nothing to worry about. just stay on top of your oil. my ST does it to a much lesser extent at over 200k mi.

compression test will check the rings if ur worried

The 5S-FE does that. Nothing to worry about. Just check your oil every so often.

Yeh, I pour a bunch of expensive Redline Oil into it...
some days it seems to take as much as my 2 stroke bike!

So, !thanks guys, just going to run it and not sweat it.
I love this little car, it's a keeper.

Just replace the valve seals and get a valve adjustment while your at it, its normal on high mileage engines but not something you should ignore.

Mine smokes on start, too. Not as much as yours, though.
Like everybody says: stay on top of your oil and you should be fine.

Also, you can get bottle of Slick50. I was very skeptical about it but it works.

Leaky valve stem seals are VERY common in 5S Toyotas. My MR2 does it as well.
