It's the 1.8, and yes, you can beef it up. A lot of people have turboed them, I know of the top of my head you can find it in the stickies; OOBE has a 7afte. As far as reliability, if that's your main concern, just go with small bolt ons, intake, exhaust, etc. With those mods you can keep your fuel economy and it'll sound better and be a tiny bit faster.

x2 there's really not a whole lot of potential for a 7AFE. But if you want a reliable, semi-loud, and fun car, that's your motor. If you want power, you'll have to do some swaps bro. Even the turbo'd 7A doesn't make a whole lot of power.

Lots of people have swapped 3sgtes and passed emissions! but honestly, since you have the ST, from what I've read, you should probably swap in the 4age engine, due to the fact that it's a direct swap motor vs the 3sgte, where you would have to drill some new holes and (possibly?) fabricate new mounts.

That's not really that bad of a task. It's been done plenty of times. You can even make a mount that's stronger than factory.

you sir are wrong, while the 4age is a direct swap and you can use your transmission and mounts it is not the best swap, i have researched both swaps for a good while, you literally drill a couple holes in the frame for the new mount, one mount is the only thing missing and the mounts are not hard to find at all , then you can use the s54 tranny out of the gt or mr2 camry etc. just new axles and the hubs will still work with it, for the money the 3sgte is a much better option, more power and stock turbo cant beat it
