yea, D, you know how it is..lol
anyway, lithia toyota now stocks alot of the gen3 parts, and without the outragous pricing that we used to have to pay for them aka, a valve cover gasket kit that was 50 thru kbox, is now 21$ and the 140$ tensioner is now under 50. the #1 idler is 104$, so im going to order that and a tensioner, since i reused the original one. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

i didnt do them when i swapped, cause hell, the motor only had 34K on it. (and i didnt have the extra money) just goes to show, miles really dont matter, the pully is 15+ years old! if you have the money, DO IT. not that its impossible to do with the motor in, its really not a huge deal, but its definetly much easier when the motor is on a stand. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

this is true. i almost got some when i got all the other tune up stuff for the motor from lagos. but i was like do i REALLY want to spend all that $$$ and i have some spare idler pulleys in the trunk (although i enjoy a nice slice of peace of mind)
is there any way 2 test the idler pulley? -------------------- |

you can spin it by hand...but then again, i just fixed the car last night, and the old pully feels smooth and dont make noise as you turn it.
odd. also found a few loose bolts in there, the mount bracket only had one bolt holding it in. bad bad bad. its all set now tho, runs perfectly again, smooth and steady. back in buisness!! -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

BTW other than the whining issue, how is she driving? ahh, man, its an absolute dream to drive. the engine runs awesome, and feels strong. i really couldnt be happier with it, man, i really couldnt. ::edit:: also, when i installed the intake, i noticed my water injection setup had been hitting the firewall. so hard in fact, it actually cracked the threads on the nozzle, and the threads came off in my hand when i pulled the nozzle off. looking back now, it was prolly caused by the loose mount bracket allowing extra play in there., but i dont wanna chance it hitting again. i put a 1/8 npt plug in the hole to seal it, and i will probably just drill the throttle body and install the nozzle there now. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

installed the symtech map clamp earlier this week...man, this car HAULS @ 18-19psi.
still dont have the WI installed, but even at 18+psi, i havent felt it hesitate once. WOOT for the 3rd gen!! -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

Was it like a fast metalic crackling noise? I never replaced mine. Just couldn't justify the price with that thing being so expensive compared to everything else. It was fine for the longest time, then I went to do my timing belt a few weeks ago and it was still fine.... then I went in there again to reset the timing belt, and after that second time it started making noises! fml! Worst part about doing it on the car is getting the tensioner bolts lined up and bolted up, and now I have to go back and do it all again! I might end up buying an aftermarket tensioner for 25$ and take caliper readings to see how they compare to a real toyota one. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

I dont mean just the bearing, but the whole thing.
you can get it aftermarket here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...1&viewitem= I emailed them and they can sell you just the idler pulley for 25$. I figure its worth buying it and taking measurements to make sure it was made to spec with the original. you can also take the OEM one off and take it to a part store that sell denso and NGK parts, they'll get the number from it and get you a replacement for ~ 30 bucks, Corey did that, and I did that
