i aint puttin the car down in any sense. im really lookin to buy one, but i honestly dun know if crankwalk is all hyped up. i hope it is. cuz i dun wanna get it. for now im juss dreamin of turbo and 4wd handling. hm~~~~ sweet

one more thing. crankwalk was found on completely stock cars that have been taken care of in a religious manner. i talked to this baby-boomer aged guy, he had all oil changed done on time and all the other maintenance. he never raced it. and got crankwalk around 50k miles.

QUOTE (integra_killer @ Jan 14, 2004 - 7:32 PM)
Hey guys, now hear me out I LOVE MY 1996 CELICA GT!! I absolutley love it, its never given me problems and I love modding it, but.. but I was looking at the Eclipse GSX (awd turbo, 200hp) and its almost the same price, its a little more expensive, and the insurance is a lot more.. I was wondering what you guys think of that comparison and if you guys know any pros / cons for each car.. despite the obvious of course! I love my 6gc but Im scared I might trade it in and buy a GSX on day, talk me out of it! frown.gif

Just remember how many 6GC's you see and how many Eclipses you do.

Exact reason I changed my mind from a Prelude (which isn't very common considering Civics and Accords) to a 6GC

UNRELAIBLE

the trannies goes in gsx's so much u might as well buy in bulk. i have a friend who has kileld 5 thats right 5 trannies.....and the last 2...were racing trannies. and my rommate has an awd tlaon tsi (exact same car) and it has something else wrong with it about every week.

however they are fun as hell when they run right and take good to mods hp-wise. hell i almost bought one a couple years ago. just be ready to spend a lot of money and have some downtime.

the more power you make, the more stuff will break!

but here is the best part. those care are very cheap and easy to work on. as long as you have a garage and are not afriad to try new things, you will love the car.
somone i know put it best, "DSM: turing normal people into mechanics since 1989".

i almost bought a 90 talon TSI (1st gen DSM) as a project car. i ended up not getting it because i found out my firend ran it with almost no oil in it.

if anything ever happened to my celica, then i would really consider buying a 1g thats in good shape. for very little money you can have that car running 12s.

^^^ parts arent necessarily cheap in DSM's... my friend bought a 97 talon tsi awd and 4th gear went out a little while later...Turns out that other parts of the drivetrain were damaged ( i dont remember how) but anyway basically to get his transmission just REBUILT, cost him 2500...ok u have to remember, AWD trannys are expensive as hell. so yes you may be able to soup the cars up for cheap, but you cant necessarily "fix" them for cheap.... also another tid-bit...i know 3 guys with turbo dsm's... 2 have crankwalk....the ONLY way u can fix this is by swapping the engine....and nobody on this site can just say " oh well yeah all u gotta do is slap a 1st gen motor in it"....easier said than done...i suggest if you are really interested go to dsmtuners.com to check out info on them...my best friend drives a dsm, so i know almost as much about them, as i do about celicas...and yes if you have a dsm you WILL become a mechanic...

The early madel GSX's were more reliable I thought. I know the earlier cars had a stronger version of the 4g. OR so I've read...

eclipse is not a reliable car at all. my friend bought a gst and had to return it on the same day cuz it was giving him problems.

i guess depends on u. if u want a fast car for sunday drives then get the GSX. but if u want a daily car that looks sweet, keep ur celica (its gonna last for a loooooong time).

i think US celicas are girl cars cuz theyre so weak. haha

if only they have the gt4 here, then that car will beat the GSX anyday. frown.gif

they did have a stronger 4g. i have helped replace, where to begin. I have replaced a head, exhaust manafold, turbo, tranny and intercooler on a 91 eclipse. This all had to be replaced after the car had 152,000 miles on it. This Bit*h ran strong. we had the boost turned up to 18 psi. it had a fuel pump and injectors. After we replaced all those things it is stronger than i have ever felt it. i love dsm's and hope to one day own one. just my experiences.

thats where he went wrong. he went to a shop and had them fix a synchro. he would have just bought another tranny for about 700$ from a junk yard. so its not that they are expensive to fix, its that shops overcharge you for everything!

once toyota wanted to charge me 400$ laybor to diagnose and repair my speedo head in my celica . anyone here that has a set of indiglow guages knows how easy the speedo is to take out. so it just goes to show that you should try to avoid a shop as much as you can.

alott of my friends are dsmers, and like the previous said, they fix there cars then somethin ghappens a month later and its in the shop again, at my buds garage, theres a 2nd gen talon, 1st gen gsx, 2nd get gst all sittin there with problems.... DSM's kick ASS when they run... WHEN they run, alott of my friends are very knowledgable about cars, and mod there eclipses/talons with caution but still have problems... confused.gif but if you like it go with it.... any time you go from na to FI your gunna have more things to take care of.... good luck
