today i spent some one on one time with the celi and got around to do things like changing spark plugs, readjusting high beam light output angle, temporarily fixed my one fog light that wouldn't turn on, diagnosed my sticking clutch problem, fixed loose windshield nozzle, took out the spare tire, and added a 2nd interior heater to take advantage of my overpriced parking pass.. all in the comfort of my insulated heated garage while blasting music from the garage sound system .
there were still things that were left unfinished so i'll be at it again in about 2 weeks when my parts order arrives.. Today i installed a 7th gen short shifter and took it for a test run. Shifted great, no issues whatsoever.
Out on my test run i got pulled over by a local Sheriff! He claimed my exhaust was too loud. (Greddy SP2....) I looked at him and told him it's state legal and he looked at me like i was nuts. I told him to look it up if he didn't believe me. Then, he proceeded to tell me i was speeding though he could no tell me what the speed was or what he clocked me at. (70 in a 65.... pfft.) Claimed i was doing 80 cuz he was doing "over 80" to catch up. So... Then he finally gave me a ticket for no insurance. I looked at him like he belonged to a special ed class after i told him i was working on it. $200.00 fine so i'm going to court so make him look like a fool for even pulling me over. Around here if you go to the court and the officer doesn't show, the case is dropped. So im going to bring a picture of my Greddy SP2, and let the judge know how the officer didn't even clock me and bring an insurance card so i can laugh at the cop. Didn't even get to install my shiny new shift bushings.... Btw, Has anyone else ever gotten pulled over for their Greddy being too loud? |

^ No insurance? How are you going to fight that? Never had a chance to tell him it was in the process. I'll have insurance soon, jumping through alot of hoops just to get it. Insurance companies around here will screw you big time just cause they can. A friend of mine had insurance and the company lapsed it even though she had paid ON TIME. The girl who took the payment was fired the next day and the payment was "lost". Today; Got a black N1 fart pipe. Looks sick. Can't wait to get it on. So i just have to present the insurance card to the judge on the court date and let him/her know what had happened. I never told the cop i "didn't" have insurance, he just assumed i didn't because i didn't present a card. Not to mention it took me weeks of going from company to company trying to find a decent rate for a 21 yr old male with a red sports car. Most quotes were over 1k/6 months. I finally got them down to ~$300/6 months but that was right before the ticket. So hopefully they don't raise it right away. |

^^^ Is that full coverage or liability only? And as long as you walk into court and show the judge an insurance card that shows you had insurance the day of the ticket, you'll get it dropped with no questions asked. Your policy should be effective from the minute you pay the premium and if you get lucky, you can get the company to backdate the policy a few days. They'll gladly accept extra money for days when they know nothing happened to your car in most cases. If you can't get proof that you had insurance the day you got the ticket... you're probably effed. I don't know how Wisconsin is, but if you get a ticket for no insurance in Illinois, you're looking at a $500 fine plus your insurance rate will effectively double.
/insurance talk. Today, I changed replaced the gauge cluster lights with white LED's, worked on a sound system, cleaned, and did some basic maintenance to a Celica that, for the ten thousandth post in this thread, STILL doesn't belong to me. That girl's lucky that she is so persuasive. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. OLD WIFES TALE! Here's just one of a bazillion sites that came up with a quick google: http://www.xkaw.com/Cars_Transportation/In...n.asp?id=377921 Either way, your situation stinks. Not proud of this; but I drove for 4 years without insurance, in a red sports car. Insurance companies around here wanted close to 3K/year for a new male driver, with NO tickets. I found that if you don't give them a reason to pull you over, they won't. I also found that I drove VEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERY good when I didn't have insurance... eventually I got busted by a bike patrol cop when I was doing a charity event for handi-capable persons. Wheres the karma? LOL. I was fined $2500(cdn). So 4 years at $3000/year, or 4 years for $2500. Like I said, I'm not proud of that fact, but wow, did I save some cash. So I hearz ya about the insurance pplz raping your wallet... This post has been edited by KAOS: Jan 24, 2011 - 12:19 AM -------------------- |

So I hearz ya about the insurance pplz raping your wallet... So Today i am talking to the insurance company so i can get paperwork as proof and then i'm calling the DA to explain the situation to see if i can have it dropped before i even have to show up in court. If i have to show, and the cop doesn't it'll get dropped instantly so im not too worried. Cops around here are kinda lazy so if they don't have to, they won't. Btw, The $1000 insurance was for like mid grade stuff. Once i found an insurance agent that deals with over 10 insurance companies i found lower rates. I'm only at state minimum so the cops will leave me alone. But alas, they don't! I drive very carefully and don't speed unless im passing. (Do you count 5 over as speeding? ) I've never been pulled over for too loud of an exhaust for my celi so i was confused when he said it. It's actually quite quiet when im cruising and not much louder when im at WOT. Isn't the Greddy SP2 street legal when it comes to decibel ratings? And Richee, I imagine the insurance for that thing is killer. I honestly think my rate isn't that bad for the celi, i'll be bumping up to full coverage after i get some things taken care of. Wish me luck! And thanks for the support! |

Cyberblader- You have to be VERY careful with state minimum coverage. You can't even run over a rabbit in your own driveway and get away with it. But I understand needing something cheap. Look on the bright side- I actually sell insurance and the Celica is by and far one of the cheapest cars I've found to insure. The IS 300 on the other hand... I have a 2002 IS. I could insure a 2009 Corvette for myself for less. And I can't figure out why it costs so much- no insurance company considers the car to be "high performance," it's not a highly stolen car, repairs aren't terrible for it... I see no reason why it should cost so much. But like I said, the Celica is dirt cheap to insure. Another great perk of the car.
Projectgt- It's like a whole new car now Wadeos- More pictures of the car? It kinda looks like the color of my project GT and I'd love to see more pictures of Celicas in that color. Even if it isn't the same color, I'm liking that color on your car. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates.
