I'd hate to wreck that contraption...Cut in half and rewelded. Wow. Also the fuel cell...wtf? Why not in the trunk area. |

Why not in the trunk area. you would be surprised how cars are built... most cars are spot welded, there is one after every 2 to 3 inches... and they are not very strong... a good welder can make a good job if you weld the right spots... just to give you an example... those little dimples are the spot welds, and you can pry them off with a crow bar... -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... Yes but that's completely different than an ENTIRE car being cut in half and rewelded. This is one of the most unsafe practises I've ever seen.

How do you know that, if he went the extra mile and plated over the stitch it would be stronger than the car was originally. Yes but that's completely different than an ENTIRE car being cut in half and rewelded. This is one of the most unsafe practises I've ever seen. its exactly how the OEM's built your car in the factory, using spot welds all over the entire car. the shell isnt stamped from one peice..lol if you dont know what your talking about, why not just not post? your making yourself look silly to those who do. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

Update: Car split into two pieces on the highway and caused a minivan holding a family of 8 to crash. I guess Mycurse180 was right.
I didnt want the fuel cell inside the car because its much harder to get laid when you smell like gasoline. -------------------- 1994 Supra TT 1999 Cadillac Escalade (winter ride/tow truck) 1994 Celica GT-4 Converted 1998 Celica GT-4 Converted 1987 Corolla FX 1986 Corolla AE86 (Next Project) |

You have a mk4, getting laid is as easy as getting gas in those cars.... This post has been edited by SupraKid: Feb 20, 2011 - 2:02 PM |

I haven't posted much of the second built yet but I stopped home for spring break and I'll show my progress. It's all done mechincally I had it running today, all thats left is a ton of body work and the interior wiring. This time I made sure the donor car had a sunroof.

Yes but that's completely different than an ENTIRE car being cut in half and rewelded. This is one of the most unsafe practises I've ever seen. In your defense, cut and shut cars are unsafe if repaired incorrectly. here is a video to prove my point: Cut n Shut video Before we start the flame war, everyone needs to take this video with a grain of salt. 1) that is an older car which is not as safe as newer cars 2) that car in the video is an convertible which only has the floor to support the crash, cutting the only structure would make a big difference 3) repairs on that car was done incorrectly, the owner complained about the car wearing the tires unevenly. Sorry about the thread jacking, but I just wanted everyone who reads this thread to understand the full story. |

I just dont understand why the flaming had to start, its his car, so!!!! he did a great job.
If you are not getting this conversion done by him, or buying his car then dont complain.. Jeez, so many cars are modified to the wazoo day and night... -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... great job man, only thing I would have done was put the fuel cell in the hatch, but I am sure you had your reasons for doing it the way you did so, congrats!
