I had heard of the GT-four through media and games. However, I never thought about owning one, or any celica for that matter. When I came on orders to Japan I was dead set on a twin turbo GTO (3000gt VR-4 in the states). However, when i arrived, a sergeant i know was parting with his celica for cheap, $1500. I said I'd take a look, we went to his house, he opened his garage, and i instantly recognized the hood. The garage was barely even open when I thought to myself "SOLD!".

Haha i got that same sold thought to myself when looking my gtfour. My mate had a 1991 twin turbo gto was a really good car - which he swapped for a celica not long ago. Which gen gto were you looking at getting ? Do they have many 3rd gen tt gtos in japan as there are only a handful in New Zealand. I was randomly browsing on trademe and a white gtfour came up in the search results so i had a look at it. My first thought was wow thats awesome i want that but the price was way out of my budget. I was later looking at getting a white trueno bzr which i took for a drive and was really good but the guy wanted too much. So i kept looking around and i found a blue ss1 celica which i quite liked. Went and checked the car out took it for a drive etc and brought it. 4 Months down the track i notice a blue gtfour on trademe which was close to where i live so i thought i would check it out. Went and checked the gtfour out and instantly got that wow thats awesome feeling again once seeing it, and i thought to myself sold ! (: -------------------- |

I had just started going to college and needed something with better gas mileage than my Infiniti J30, so i looked around for awhile and was dead set on getting a civic..... then i started to notice that almost every civic around here looks like dog**** with fiberglass all over it, but i was set to do something different. After looking at countless pos civics my dad who works at toyota suggested looking at celicas, so i browsed craigslist for awhile and found a black 5th gen Gt, and a teal 96 st, both of which were 5 speeds. went to look at the 5th gen and was in love, it was black, a 5speed, and a hatch lol, guy only wanted a grand for it so it seemed like a good deal, but the ebrake did not work on it, and living on a giant hill like i do a functioning ebrake was a must.
So later that day i ventured up into Cincinnati to look at the teal celica, the guy wanted 3 grand for it, i talked him down to two, my dad took it for a drive for me, since it would be my first 5 speed, and i liked the way it looked from the interior..... but it was teal..... and had clearcoat cancer.... i was not pleased with the color, but it started to grow on me and we went up the next day and she was mine...... hated the color for weeks, but it eventually grew on me and i love the color now, its different lol -------------------- 1996 Toyota Celica Project Mean Green

When I got my licence I was looking for my first car, i decided I wanted something small and somewhat sporty, which is what drew me to the Celica, so my first car was a 1989 5th Gen Celica with a 3sge and 4ws (great first car, good for learning in).
After a while I really started getting into cars and stuff so I decided I wanted a car that i felt was worth spending a few $$$ on. I loved celicas so I was keen to get a ST185 at first, but after some consideration I decided they were a bit too similar to what I already had (shape and interior etc) so I looked into the ST205, and after seeing a video of Tufys red gt4 on youtube i was sold, I had to have one! So I worked my ass off for about a year and saved hard until I found my car, got it for $6,300NZD which aint bad, especially only having done 115,000ks which is very low for one of these cars in this country. -------------------- Speeding doesn't kill! went to a buy here pay here lot to look at a pontiac sunfire gt convertible low mileage low price car, when i got there i never even took the sunfire for a test drive as the sheer sexiness of the black on black celica convertible was parked right next to it, it was 2k more and needed alot of work but the heart wants what the heart wants. i drove out of there in a sexi black celica with four bad wheel bearings, a dripping oil engine, ripped seat, radio that didnt work, bad struts and bald tires, with a big smile on my face cause i knew i got what i really wanted even if it was gonna cost me alot more.

Funny, I actually test drove a Sunfire as well right before I saw the Celica. I stepped out of the Sunfire never having wanted to be in it in the first place and that's when I saw the Celica, sitting there in her silver glory. Even though it was unfortunately an auto, I still had to have it. No regrets, almost 25,000 miles later. Still only sitting a hair under 90k. I have always been a fan of the 6th Gen Celica. I love the round headlights and the unique body style... truth be told; the ORIGINAL Gran Turismo is to blame for my love of this car.
I found a 6th Gen in the Used Cars section of that game and pimped it out... I used that car to win the majority of the races that I could. It was amazing. Every since that, I've always wanted one. When my car was up for sale where I used to live, I didn't bother getting it tested out or anything... I just bought it. It was in ROUGH shape when I got it... but I'm slowly working to restore it to all its glory. -------------------- |

I wanted a convertible, and I trust the Toyota name... I wasn't a fan of the later Celicas... i really feel like the 6G is the only model that really had any style...
I bought it in early 2006 and have loved this car ever since... It's gonna finally be paid off this weekend! SO EXCITED! |

had an 89 accord as my first car, started to hate it due to the stupid things that kept going wrong with it, went to a toyota dealership to look at a mitsubishi 3000GT and of course 12 years ago there was no way i could afford it and as i was looking around spotted the celica, caught my attention price was right and I loved it. Drove it about 8 years with no major problems, then crashed it and then got a 7th gen, have been driving that DD that for the last 4 years, wanted my toy back so picked up another 6th gen almost 2 years ago.

I grew up in a family of car enthusiasts and was always told Toyota makes a quality car, and I have always been a HUGE fan of the import scene. My mom had a 5th generation Celica when I was really young and after she sold it, I knew when I was 16, that is what I wanted. So fast forward to 16 and I began to dislike the 5th generation Celica more and more as I began to desire cars such as AE86's, S13's, S14's, and FC's. Obviously I was trying to get into drifting, as the drifting scene up here in the PNW is HUGE. However I decided getting another car to harness the techniques of a good driver and to daily drive while I save up for something that I can slide with.
Anyways, found my Celica on craigslist and was super skeptical at first because I honestly did not like the way that the 6th gens looked stock (obviously I acquired the taste) but the second I pulled up to the previous owner's house and saw it sitting in the driveway all waxed up and pretty I HAD TO HAVE IT, then took it for a test drive and LOVED IT. Still do to this day... -------------------- 2006 BMW 330i - 6 Speed - Dinan Stage 1

I needed something to drive during the winter that didn't leak all the time. I was torn between a two owner 944, and original owner Celica. My Father the person who got me into Porsche's somehow talked me out of the 944, and into the Celica. Looking back on it I wish I didn't buy the Celica or my last three Honda's instead I wish I went with something rwd or awd......
Every car I've had except for my first car just hasn't fulfilled my wants. -------------------- |

My reason is exceedingly simple. When I was looking for a new car in 1998 I just wanted a stick shift convertible with a decent size trunk but not too big to fit into my drive way. I had wanted a 5th gen Celica and it seemed the BMW was too common place around NYC. So I just bought the first white Celica convertible I found. Pretty much paid retail too.
Darn I'm glad I didn't get that BMW. That's been 2 or 3 iterations of the BMW 3 series since and my Celica convertible happened to be one of the last ones ever produced. |
