My Beams came with the standard intake which I'm planning on using to start with, but is there any/much advantage going aftermarket with a decent CAI in place? I've read elsewhere that the standard Beams intake is the best...

It was Bonzai's post below that got me thinking.

Mine is an auto and still a blast to drive (I usually just auto-stick it since they made the tranny able to do so anyway). But I'm more thinking....GREAT, another person to compete for parts with... rolleyes.gif

*edit* oh and for an intake, I use one from a late 90's 4runner and it works great, but just had to get a proper sized silicone adapter.

for the intake check out my thread. All you need to do is buy this : http://www.amazon.com/Short-Induction-Inta.../dp/B002W5XHI8/

cut it and buy a 71mm piping that has a 80-90 degree bend like mine and it works great.

you might gain about 2hp from it but you probably won't even feel any notice in power. It's more for looks and noise. It sounds tons better in my opinion. The video i posted of it does not to its justice. It sounds way better in person.

ill be honest with you, the oem intake is the best because it was engineered for it. all the aftermarket ones you can get here will either run the engine lean or rich. the most closest one is the 3.0 inches, that i sold to bonzai, but still not perfect.

There is a SARD that was made for the beams, runs about 300 dollars, but the filters are not washable.

this engine is very picky...

Now i found this on ebay.... good luck finding it. HKS its discontinued, and still is not perfect...

ya it would be nice to get a sard one, but still Norberto if you think about it the sard attaches to the stock intake piping. It will not be perfect like he said, unless you tune your beams with an aftermarket standalone ecu. The resonator box on stock intake piping is what muffles the noise of the intake.

yeah, but the problem is the turbulence, the more you create the worse the car runs...

Interesting. Might stick with the standard intake for now then.

Looks don't bother me, but I do love the sound that a good intake makes. smile.gif

What a red nuts guy on his shield.

Hey on the intake box, is there enough pipe between the AFM and the lid to maybe slice it off and use that to mount your pod filter?

Would be a gamble though...

Whats wrong with what Bonzai has? It looks fine to me.. well maybe apart from that tiny rough hackjob of a silicone joiner hes got tongue.gif

Here is my intake, i think it works gret and didn't have to spend tons extra to make it work (just 4 bucks for a 3 inch to 3 inch silicone adapter since the one that came with was 2.5 to 3 inch, lol)

*note* sorry for tha bad pic, I'm too lazy to take a close-up of it ATM

I just noticed something, most of those have the oil breather plugged in (sealed & metered system), which is good, but if you don't then you'll need to disconnect the pcv from the manifold or it will take in unmetered air from time to time.

Solution is to run both into a catch can with a filter on top.

What on earth does that mean? I'm not up with these crazy kiwi sayings! smile.gif

But yeah, if there is no performance gain then I won't bother changing the intake.

like I said before you wont gain much power from an already high power N/A engine. It not for performance but for the pure joy of a great sounding engine!!
