I was wondering if anyone could help me out with my horn.

I have the big ugly 4 post steering wheel with the two horn buttons. I'm not sure how it was before but this is how it's acting now:

- car off - horn doesn't work
- key in on position - horn doesn't work
- start up engine - horn sometimes works (sometimes it works only after I drove a bit, sometimes even after i drove for a while it doesn't work)

I checked the horn fuse in the engine bay...it looks okay to me...checked the power and grounds to the horns, they don't look damaged....all my other electronics in the car work and i don't have any other electrical issues as far as I know...

Any ideas? kindasad.gif

when i pulled out my steering wheel, i had to tighten the 4 brass (philips) screws just right so that my horn would ground properly. i would start by checking that first.

i'm referring to these 4 screws below:

see "steering wheel swap guide"

edit: my bad.. i thought it was philips but you'll actually need a torx screwdriver.

relook at how it contacts. or check your wires too while you are in there. mine didnt work well because the wiring in the front was severed.

yeah, that's the second place to look since the horn should go off even when the car is off. although that might just be a jdm feature but maybe someone can confirm this. my other guess would be to check the wiring at the horn fuse. it should be getting constant power.

and in case your diagram isn't in english..

i just chased down a horn issue mine was black wire behind the steering wheel pad that was cut but check your relay because seems like the heat is causing the relay contacts to expand and making it work sometimes is just my guess worth a shot anyways.....

So today I pressed the honk with the car off and it worked for some reason...interesting..

I also installed two 118db Hella Supertone horns

Nice and loud =D

Then I took the airbag off my steering wheel and everything seemed to be ok...I just pinched the ground wire connector so it's tighter and put it back...so far so good.

How much?

http://www.subimods.com/hella-supertone-horn-kit.html $65 for the horn
http://www.subimods.com/subimods-hella-horn-harness-kit.html $30 for the plug and play harness (not needed but it makes the horn louder by getting power directly from battery -- you can make one yourself)

Update on the whole horn situation.....still acting funny...

The worked as it normally should for a day....honked when I pressed it whether the car was on or not...
Yesterday the horn sound fluttered to a silence while I tested it again...fuse was fine and so were the connections as far as I can tell....tested it again later in the day and it worked fine..

why this inconsistent performance?....

Nice horns, I recently installed the PIAA Sport Horns, and they sound pretty unique.

so turns out my horn only works when the steering wheel is in specific positions (ie. turned slightly to the left). When the wheel is centered or slightly to the right it won't work...so my friend thinks it's the contact plate behind the steering wheel that might not be making good contact....will have to take it all apart again to look....

time for a new steering wheel and hub?

Any chance you can upload a sound clip of them? I'm very interested to hear them... or are you coming east at all any time soon? tongue.gif
