Just did some more work on the airbox...


Cut a piece of pipe to mark out where to cut the hole.




New bit of pipe and the hole is cut.




These are just the mounting spacers that sit underneath the box.




Cut the pipe up and then added a bit more to get the right angle.

Very cool.

Are you running any additional air to the box besides the standard piping? Also did you think about relocating the battery to give a bit more volume?

The only standard piping is that one piece under the fusebox, so future work is going to include a cold air feed from behind the spotlight/foglight up to the airbox. I did think about shifting the battery to the rear, but alot more effort, cost & work are required, and theres loom in the way, so I'd need to relocate that somewhere. I'm happy with the results so far biggrin.gif

haha well maybe not PC cooling fans, but was thinking of giving this a go, a few members here (presure2 and batman) have used this on their intercoolers to keep temperatures lower, I was thinking the same but instead putting it in the inside of my airbox (rather than the outside), not too sure if it would give the same results though, plus I'm finding it hard to buy here in NZ kindasad.gif





Would be interesting to see what the new intake temp will be biggrin.gif

good to see you keeping the dream alive though, NA power!! As you say you could just sell up and get an SS-III or a GT4 if you wanted to take the easy option.

maybe you like your SS-II because the Tom's Celica was a 1996 SS-II lol

you'll get there in perfecting that air intake though, i went the easy route in the end with the SS-III I had by just plumbing the pod filter down to the wheel arch, it felt like a huge difference from down low where it used to be sluggish, alot of people asked if it was turbocharged because it was so quick for a Celica, and the ACIS kick was just phenomenal as remember I made a custom switchover controller for it. for a long time i was even convinced it was just as fast as my GT4 with the ct26/t04e-46 lagsnail that was fitted to it.

Great looking box. I recently had a ARC GEN3 SW20 mr2 intake box laying around and decided to
install on my 5sfe mr2 and the mid range pick up was amazing over a cone filter. I just sold ARC
box and went back to cone and the difference is very noticeable in mid range rpm's.

I think the velocity stack and box design really help in maintaining airflow . I plan on building a
box to use a panel filter and velocity stack and test on st205.

Woah nice, so is that all welded up now? Did you weld the pipe to the box too?? totally sealed unit ftw, it should make a really nice bassy roar when its sealed up. Btw get yourself some Champion S/Steel M6x16 Cap screws and 6mm S/Steel washers for that lid smile.gif

I kinda went nuts replacing every single bolt under my hood with cap screws lol

Haha yeah I noticed yours long ago but I didn't realise how good they look until my engine bay started filling up with polished aluminum and metal bits lol

Yes all welded up now, the intake pipe is not welded to the box, because there is too much engine movement. I thought that hump silcone hose would provide enough flex but it doesn't, so I've put a bit of hose around the pipe hole on the box, so it seals and has flexability.

I just raided my dads work van and got some s/s button top screws and plastic washers, looks the business biggrin.gif

Went for the first drive today. Goes good, has a different intake tone (hard to describe) and feels like there is an improvment in power/torque. No teething problems.

Would also like to buy a temperature sensor thingy so I can see the temp inside the box and compare it to the engine bay and outside.
