I removed it on both my celica and rx7. I just patched it with white duct tape haha cause one you cant really tell and its a rally car.

However on the Rx7 I patched it. Fiberglass sheet the bottom, then fiberglass paste to fill the gap, then bondo on top. Sand it completely smooth then paint the hatch.

Don't really have any pics though.

Wonder if you could just use like a rubber plug or something for it???

was just thinking of this today. I gotta patch my spoiler holes anyway so I might do this in the process. I never find the rear wiper that useful. Even in snow I use the defroster.

Ive been thinking about it for some time.
A mate of mine has a ST185 Type A GT-four and he removed his and did the fiberglass fix like has been mentioned above. Came out really well, cant even tell.

I was thinking of just doing the same thing but with carbon fibre.

But the rubber plug is interesting too, i wonder if we can get them big enough?

I removed and shaved mine. Its just one bolt on top and a few on the inside, kind of self explanatory just look for the stress points. If it doesnt come out theres another bolt. IMO i think it looks 100000 x's better without it

I just used some tape on the inside of the hole (or fiberglass, tapes just easier) and then put bondo on top of that and smoothed it out with a creditcard (or the little putty things you can buy from bondo (but they're like $6, so if you have an old unused creditcard it works just as well for free).
then sand it and use bondo glazing putty, to get the final smooth coat and fill any small holes. And sand it with 1000 grit (or close)

Try this one out...the wiper base is still there but hopefully it gives you an idea. I was tempted to remove it totally after I re-sprayed it but thought better of it.

I did remove the radio hole which I wrote a how to guide.
