hey guys, a couple weeks ago, i installed a set of colt cams for zac (6g96gt).
he got a mild grind, so i was just as anxious to see what kinda gain he would get from them VS stock, and the mild webcams that I had on the 5sfte. i forgot my thumb drive, so ill have to go back to get the runfiles to be able to overlay the runs, but just by the numbers, he made 135whp, uncorrected, and ~ 140ftlbs IIRC. he has some printouts that im sure he'll post later tonight when he gets home. dustin made ~123whp with the webcams, but the powerband is quite diffrent between the 2. the coltcams are definetly smoother, with more overall gains, where the webcams were much peakier, with all the gains coming above 4K rpm. once i get the runfiles, ill be able to illustrate this much better, with more details. for now, i will add a pic i took while tuning it at the dyno. it shows 2 runs. the blue one is when we first got there, without any tuning, the red one is after a handful of runs of playing with the SAFCII. blue run = 115.16whp, 131.06ftlbs with STD correction. red run = 128.61whp and 140.17ftlbs with STD correction. goes to show its definetly worth it to pick up and dyno tune a SAFC or somthing after mods like this..hell, even stock you can probably gain 10-15whp from an SAFC by leaning the fuel curve some. enjoy zac! -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

Manny!! I love my car man!! And thanks to you bro for tuning it and getting it to run like it does now. I definitely noticed the difference after the cams were installed and like then, I definitely notice the difference now and it's just that much more FUN to drive. It's no turbo, but sh*t, it's a lot of fun! *On a side note, just wanted to let everyone know that Manny does Top-Notch work, he wired up my safc really nice (even soldered the connections) and made a custom bracket for my safc to sit on. Awesome work, Awesome guy! Thanks again Manny!

By the way, Bitter's SAFC for a $100 is a DAMN GOOD DEAL. |

Thanks man, yeah the car idles almost like stock with just a tiniest bit of interruption. Soon as I get it into first though, it's very smooth from 0 to red line - I couldn't be happier with how it's all worked out with the cams and safc. |

nice what is the avg power you can get from both tuning with just the safc and colt cams? 10-15whp for stock tune and then up 10-20 again for the cams?

Yeah man, my raw power at the wheels was 135 hp so you figure I gained 30 whp from the cams and tune. that is a very nice gain, especially from 4,500 Yep, it is! Manny, I can't find my print outs ANYWHERE! Were you able to retrieve some? |

how much is a 5s stock to the wheels?
and is the 30hp gain really noticable, like not only to you(driver) but do u friends or passengers notice anything special. like is it worth the 600-700 dollar or is it better to save for 3s thanks -------------------- For Sale:OEM tail lights - make offer

I was told the stock 5s in our celica has 105 whp. I can absolutely notice a difference, no question. 2 of my friends also noticed the difference as well. I really don't think you can make a decision on a 3s vs a 5s even with cams though because if you mean the 3sgte, then cams in a 5s aint sh*t in comparison to a 3sgte's power and if you mean the 3sge, that's got 210 hp I believe and I've been in one and it's a big difference compared to my 5s. Even the 3sge has another 45 whp up on me.
Even the money is a big contrast man, you're talking $600 vs at least $4,000-$5,000 for a full 3sgte swap...here's your keys...have a nice day project. |

He has a header, and a 2.5" exhaust from the header back, and a injen intake.
He didn't dyno the car before the install of the cams and safcII. Most stock 5sfe's I've seen are between 105 and 115whp, depending on wear. I haven't had a chance to get by the dyno yet, ill give him a call this weekend, zac. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

Hey guys,
Checking this out, it says here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_S_engine#5S-FE that the stock 5s-fe power is 135 hp. Just making sure, when it is tuned and had the cams added it is basically just bringing the engine back to where it was ~15 years ago? OR, 6G96GT stated that a stock 5s-fe had 105 hp. So is it actually a 30hp gain? or a revival of the lost power over the years? because if its pure gain theoretically (based on the wikipedia stats) a stock 5s-fe would get to 165hp? Thanks |

that HP is rated at the flywheel. you have to take away about 12-15% in drivetrain loss.

Yeah man, my engine was totally rebuilt like brand new last year so my specs are tight. It'd be like stock 135 up to now 160-165 before the % loss.
