Hey all! I picked up a '99 GT a couple weeks ago as my winter car/daily driver, so I can take it easy on my first love (93T MR2).

She's in pretty good shape, needs a little exteriors TLC come springtime but all in all not bad. She's an automatic for now, but when the snow leaves I'll be converting to a manual transmission.

I've been browsing around the community for a while and I think this is a great place. I'm glad to have these resources around when I end up working on her. Look forward to talking to y'all in the future!

And for those interested in the MR2 biggrin.gif :

That's a great looking pair of Toyotas smile.gif Welcome to the site! The auto to manual conversion shouldn't be bad since you've got the Deuce to drive while the Celica goes under the knife.

Well considering I can do a tranny swap/clutch job on the MR2 in a weekend, I don't foresee too many problems so long as I have to foresight to get alllll the parts I need or might need. Especially considering how much heavier that stupid E153 is, that was a real pain in the butt job.

And like richee3 said, any real issues come up and I can tool around in the MR2 for a while.

a 93 turbo, nice !

auto to manual isn't that difficult, s54 tranny, clutch/fw, shifter & cables, pedal assembly, clutch master & slave, hard & soft lines, and the hardest thing is the wiring, but it's really not that difficult.

Welcome fellow NYer!

Glad to see you're not the kid I thought you were that keeps coming into my shop with his white 93 MR2 Turbo that doesn't know anything about cars... I saw the white MR2 and was a bit worried, but your front grill is white.

There are a few of us up here in NY... Josh (JDcelica) and I are trying to meet up with some locals (in fact, I'm trying to meet with him lmao stupid work schedules). Good to see another person from NY with a CLEAN 6GC. Most around here are battered and broken.

Ha yeah I'm going to try to keep her looking decent. The MR2 currently needs a new bumper (guardrail mad.gif ) and some serious exterior love (previous owner went for a Maaco special paint job, flaking off in spots), but I should be able to safely say I know a bit about cars at this point. Maybe you can convince that kid to part with his? It does look real nice sitting next to the Celica, now I just need a white MkIV Supra to round out the collection, lol!

You better watch your tone, I won't hesitate to drive an hour and make you eat those words lol.

If you need the parts for your conversion I have about three of everything you need.

Oh good to know! I'll be in touch in the future. I'd love to do it sooner but I'd rather wait for the weather to get nicer and to get the MR2 into reliable running condition (needs a power steering rebuild and new starter).

Man I hate the new orange NY plates. I was real happy I lucked out and got blue/white plates for the MR2 about a week before they went orange. At some point I'll probably change to custom plates just because. I love naming conventions (I'm an engineer lol), maybe JOZH-204 or something to match the MR2.

I've also got an early 80's RX-7 my grandfather is gifting me. It's down in Virginia right now and hasn't been driven in probably 15+ years, so it will need a bit of work. That one will obviously be JOZH-RX7 smile.gif

It's a FB, it's either an 83 or 84, I need to confirm with my grandpa. He was actually just calling about it the other day. I'm really excited for it, it has been garage kept forever, and my aunt said she wouldn't be surprised if it had less than 30k miles on it. Engine is probably carbon locked as hell but if I can get it running (MMO/ATF for the win) that's 90% of the battle right there.

You said that kid with the MR2 doesn't know anything about cars, right? Just tell him that POS ain't worth a nickel, and he's getting a deal if you only give him $1,500. laugh.gif
Man I overpaid enough for my 93T already, and I got it with 80k miles as well (108k now). Worth every penny, but my wallet actually bleeds when I open it.

He knows it's worth money. He's stupid with it though. He came into my shop looking for accessories and because he **** his pants when he saw my white ST204. He was talking about getting 1000hp and turbos and how his engine sludges when it's file because of the turbo.... Stupid stuff like that. He's talking about body kits and changing out the factory fog lights... Makes me cry inside because this thing has no rust, was old lady driven, is white, fully loaded t-top and everything and he's going to ruin it with his hot wheels mentality.

Ohhhh FB. I was thinking '87 for some reason. FB's are sick too. Especially one that clean. They don't really exist around here anymore. It's like seeing a Mitsubishi Starion TSi (almost owned one)
