You'll need the warranty. wink.gif

I'd buy a Mitsubishi too if I enjoyed the reliability of a wet napkin...

I was about to say something similar.

I've never met anyone with a "reliable Mitsubishi." My first car was going to be a 87 Mitsubishi Starion TSi Widebody, but it had a bad head gasket and I asked my uncle what kinda work he had to do to it throughout the years... no thanks. Yeah it was rare, but ****ing hell the down time would kill me.

I've actually seen quite the opposite from Mitsubishi. Never had much to do with a Starion but my sister (read: female driven, translated- treated like crap) had a '99 Galant. I drove the piss out of that thing when I had it. When she had it, it saw 20,000 mile oil changes, never had any major service done, went through a few ditches and countless nights of binge drinking, and ran great until the day she drove it into a flood.

Yeah, its weird, my buddy's eclipse GSX is always having problems.

But my friend with a Mitsubishi Mirage (ridiculous car..) literally TRIES to blow this thing up. Never oil changes, rarely tops off the oil which it of course burns and leaks. Basically NO maintenance and he hits rev limiter as a joke ALL THE TIME, and nothing...lol. This thing has been running like that for like 5 years..no joke.

It seems my buddies with performance oriented Mitsubishis have far worse luck then in the stories and instances I've heard and seen about the reliability of the point A to point B Mitsubishis. I've also heard some crazy stories about people beating the crap out of Galants..haha, kind of weird I guess. Seems to be pretty 50/50, lol.

my experience is on the same lines!!
My step-moms 3000gt is in the shop ALLL the time it feels like. In 8 years of owning the car, it has only seen a mere 25,000 miles. oil changed 1 time a year with full sythetic because it only see's 4k a year. The tires dry rotted before they were worn out.... and in that time
2 water pumps
subsequent timing belt destruction
subsequent timing belt cover replacements
1 bent valve
1 crank shaft pulley explosion
broken a/c compressor
non functioning antenna mast
assorted sensors

It sees maybe 12 miles per day, is driven no faster than 40 mph over that stretch. And has prolly had 1400 dollars sank into for 20-25k miles driven...

idk

Yikes.

I almost feel like I should pull my previous post down... hahahaha

I've read the reviews and I have a LOT of DSM friends and I can tell you that as a DD, its life will be much easier than those of EVOs and DSMs.

Hopefully, with the DD status, I can pull some decent reliability out of it. Especially since its basically a standard lancer with a detuned EVO engine/drivetrain.

Either way, I've loved every single one of the 3600 miles that I've driven it.

I actually completely forgot about the Eclipse when I posted about Mitsubishi. So here is my revised post:

I've seen one Mitsubishi that didn't completely suck. It was rather useless when my sister used it as a yacht but it was otherwise as reliable as anything else she could have had. However, an acquaintance of mine paid around $3,000 for a 1st gen Eclipse a couple of years ago which took him 1,000 miles down the road and blew up.

Because it isn't your car. Check the title of the thread to alleviate any confusion.

My Triumph Scrambler 900, picked it up in January. I figured I needed a reliable vehicle since the vette and celica are always being worked on haha

There are still some minor scratches that I can't seem to get out. I'm going to take it to a friend's detail shop to have that taken care of.

Also jet seal is awesome. I should've taken the picture after I removed it.
