Just trying to figure some things out. I'm just recently purchased my first 6th gen and I've been doing my research as to what factory options were available here in the US and other countries. At one point, I think it might have been on Edmunds, they asked which stereo system I had. One of the options was an 8 speaker stereo system. My '99 GT has the 6 speaker. Does anyone have this 8 speaker system or know of it's existence?

I also wanted to know if anyone had a factory OEM keyless entry system on their Celica or if it was offered. I haven't seen it as an option anywhere. I'd like to get one as I'm not a fan of the aftermarket one that came in it. I have to be like 10 feet away and then it only works like 9 times out of 10 on the first attempt.

My car has the 8 speaker setup:

It consists of 4 speakers, 2 subwoofers and 2 tweets total. The 8" JBL subs are located at the bottom front of each door, then there is a 5" mid speaker above that, and then the tweeter in the triangle piece above that. The rears are 6.5". There are 2 amps, one behind the shifter under the dash, and one under the driver side seat.

Yes some celicas did come with OEM alarm systems, my first celica had one. I recently installed a viper alarm system in my current Celica and I could not be happier. I also had a viper in my supra, never had any trouble.

Suprakid: Is that a factory stereo system?

Hmm ... anyone know where the remote sensor would be in the vehicle so I could look to see if my car is keyless ready? I'm assuming its not as the original owner put an aftermarket system in.

That is factory audio, I have it aswell...well on one side of the vehcile...no need to explain.

Look to the right below the steering wheel where your right knee usually is. There will be a toyota security light there if you have such system.

frown.gif I want a factory 8 speaker stereo .... *wines & stomps feet* ...

Well I guess I'll just have to buy a factory receiver for the keyless entry.

Ok so:

1) Does anyone know where the keyless receiver is located on the car? I've called all over to junk yards and no one seems to be able to pull anything up on their computers and have no clue where to look for it.

2) Without me pulling the door skin off my car, does anyone know if the door wiring is the same for the 6 and 8 speaker systems? If it is, I'll switch it over. I want some richer bass, and I thought about adding the amp and replacing the door mains with 8" subs but I don't want to lose 2 of my 4 main speakers and I don't want to take room away from the hatch area adding an aftermarket.

using 2 junk door harnesses and 2 good ones ..

Hmm ... I called my buddy who's the manager of the parts department at my local Toyota dealership. I tried to see if he could look up the part # and then cross reference it to see what other models would have used the same receiver but he said the computer doesn't even list the kit anymore but he remembers they were only like $300. He's going to call Toyota for me and see if he can get a part number. It really sucks that I can't locate a used receiver anywhere ... at least one someone is willing to sell.

Actually, if it's under the seat ... I wonder what harness it plugs into. Maybe the kit also adds a harness extension that I would need as well?

Hi, all, don't mean to zombify this thread, but I'm trying to dig up my own info before starting a new thread. Didn't see anything directly answering in the stickies, either.

I'm looking to add an OEM remote lock receiver to my '97 ST. I gather it's a black box located under the driver's seat. I don't really care about the alarm one way or the other, but I'd like to have remote locks.

Does anybody know if the wiring harness already includes a plug for this, or is it an add-on to the base chassis harness? I've done this twice in Subarus - the '97 needed a receiver and a special subharness pigtail, whereas the '02 already had the connector waiting and just needed the receiver unit. I'm wondering which way the Celica is.

Also, anybody know of one for sale? Thanks for any info.
