oh fun,
to bad it's not a 16v I have a complete uncut harness and ecu out of a 91 usdm ae92 I would make you a sweet deal on. The blacktop will be fun, it seems like the 4a gets a bad rap here because the 3s is such a great motor but they are dependable, smooth, and a lot of fun to drive. -------------------- JDM guy made me do it.

That and the 4a's dont have much torque. Makes more sense in a light car like the corollas. Most users say they wasted there time swaping a 7a for a 4a unless they build them.

yes, and the rolla/ hatchi guys lol "upgrade" to the 7a.. the builds that i have seen that seem to be the most successful are the 7agTe' s in the old 86.. they will swap the 7a's bottom end in place of the 4a... and also IIRC i remember seeing that the 16valve makes more power than the 20 valve when boosted..
my brother was in the area during the time i was porting my head (just gasket matched and some smoothing of the runners and getting rid of the machining/casting imperfections) and is of the opinion that the 7a head could actually make a good bit more power and flow allot more than what most ppl give it credit for.. he said that there is ALLOT of metal that can be removed from the head, both on the intake and exhaust.. and that NA gains could be realized w/ some time on a flow bench (to get measured results) and over sized valves (which can be had for cheap from the 4age/gze head) but the best results would come from a turbo application.. i have 2 spare heads and he will be building my next(full boost) application motor.. and i am curious on how much of an improvement he can get on the flow of the head, but that will be a wile from now as he is still looking for a flow bench that will work for what he wants and for the right $$$ any hoo, rambaling over. .i hope all goes well with your build, what ever the direction you deiced to go ultimately.. IMO stick the the black top, its already in there.. see what you can get out of it! -------------------- |

the black wire that you are holding in your hands, was that pluged into the starter just next to the BIG wire that is bolted to the starter? if so then yes, your car will not start with out that wire.. it is the signal/switched wire that tells the starter to turn over, the BIG wire only feeds power to the electric motor in the starter.. so you need both.. hope this helps

Hope thats the only problem. Tired of reading this and only seeing problems being sorted out. I wanna see a post about how much you love 6gc's and how the 4a feels! |

Yes, you will need that wire on the starter. I'd check all the wires on all the sensors before shipping the harness out, a quick tug to see if the wires are cut/loose should do. If this wire was making a very loose connection, then that explains why the car would sometimes start but often wouldn't.
I'm dying to hear a review of a 4A swapped Celica. I've found a select few posts saying the Silvertop swap is a poor choice for a Celica due to the car's weight and the engine's low torque. But I don't believe I've read anything on a Blacktop swapped Celica so I'm hoping you can get the wiring sorted out and have a reliable DD. I'd love to see this thing at the Midwest Meet. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. The wiring harness has bin out of the car for about a month, i will ship it out anyway and have drtweak work his magic and fix what needs to be fixed, and i hope it will be a reliable DD and i extreamly hope i will be there at the midwest meet, if not i will bring my broke ass miata |
