After many years, Megasquirt has finally added official support for the 2nd gen 3sgte! This is pretty big news as it opens up the doors to ditching the afm, running bigger injectors and a better than stock tune in a product for only 800$.

http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/megasqu...sgte-p-518.html

Whats even better is that if you are on a budget and are handy with a soldering iron, you can build exactly the same thing for about $400!

http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/diypnp-...-kit-p-384.html

And yes, before anyone asks, they are planning to add support for the 3rd gen 3sgte as well.

Anybody know if the MR2 93-95 ECU is the same as ours?

Quick correction: 5s-fe MR2s with rev2 engines.

The mspnp is for 2nd gen 3sgte motors only. But you could make one work for the 5sfe out of one of the DIYpnp kits they sell as long as you buy one with the same connector pin number.

Yeah, but the listing only says they support 93-95 MR2s which is why I ask. We have them same pin numbers then? Just curious, as I already have an MS-II in mine.

I'm not sure if their 5sfe ecu is the same as ours or not.

i never finished my patch harness so i could use my All-Trac AEM EMS since i went the V6 route. i dont see any reason you couldn't do the same thing and use this MS out of the box.

I'm a GEN2 owner as well...although I throw off the curve with my 5th Gen GT-S smile.gif Having said that, I'm still going with AEM or HydraNemesis...which seems odd since I build harnesses for a living and the MS system would be right up my alley! hahaha

Why would you choose either of those besides their brand names?
Hydra seems cool, until you realize how expensive it is. They charge you 300$ extra for every new software feature you want to unlock.
AEM has a cool brand name and the software is fairly user friendly, but I've heard of hardware issues with it.

To me, PowerFC and now Megasquirt seem like the best options due to the fact that they essentially do the same thing at a much lower price point. You can buy the assembled Plug and Play megasquirt for 800$ AND it comes with a fully tuned fuel and spark map. Thats a killer deal!

I'd like to see what kind of gains you could get with just the essential bolt ons and upping the boost with a new tune.

Probably quite a bit. The factory ecu (even the jdm one) is tuned pretty badly. I've driven my car with the ATS Rom Tune as well as the SARD Rom tune and it was a night and day difference in throttle response and overall fun of the car. MS was dynotuned pretty well and you could fine tune it even more and get similar or better results than the Rom tunes.

might be a dumb question but can i take this to a shop and have it tuned by pretty much anyone? or does the tuner have to know megasquirt? the reason i ask is because i have shop i go to but they specialize in aem and apexi stand alone. i know you guys make good stuff i owned vw's most of my life and you guys have been an awesome tuning option for those guys

Call that shop and ask them if they tune Megasquirt. They should be able to since it works pretty much like any other stand alone ecu.
I'm not affiliated with them, I'm just spreading the word on a new product that has been made available.

I'm glad this spam bot posted otherwise I may have missed this. I might have just been motivated to go work on the Celica again. It's been out of comission for far too long.
