Alright guys,

This is my first celica and I am extremely new to turbos and such. But I have a few questions. If i want to get a bov, where would I put it? I've read that people have been putting the HKS SSQV's in the st205's.

And also, Is there any way of converting this engine to OBD II? I have a few applications in mind.

I also would like to know if converting my exhaust downpipe/exhaust to a 3" system would be bad.

I've read mixed forums on all of these matters and would like clear and straight answers if possible.

Thank you, and greets from Okinawa, Japan!

why would you convert to OBD 2?...or how?... 3" exhaust system is prone to boost creep...and only necessary if you are pushing 400+hp

Hello, first going OBD II is stupid, no point doing that get a standlone ecu.

Secondly, the stock BOV goes off the TMIC to the stock airbox by about 1.5" pipe which you can plug you HKS SSQV into easy as, and the other small rubber tube is plugged into the stock one just unplug them both and plug into the HKS simple. You should get a podfilter set up if you do this though as the engine will suck air through the stock BOV unless you seal it up.

Exhuast wise, if you want power from a 3sgte GET A 3" downpipe and a 3" cat back system i recently did this and you have MASSIVE performance gains, i recommend getting a HKS silent power or BLITZ NUR SPEC R both of which should be very cheap is japan if you go on the japanese yahoo auctions

as long as you leave the stock flexi/mid pipe you shouldnt have any boost creep problems

Cheers

@neon- About the 3" exhaust I did read that it- is prone to boost creap, but the only exhausts i can find for the st205 on ebay are 3". And if i did that i'd have to change the exhaust manifold and down pipe from 2.25"/2.5" to 3". Or does the down pipe go from that to a 3" opening?

@Bladey - i wanted OBD II for the real-time diagnostic capabilities. and what would i do if i took out the airbox and just got a filter? if not the stock BOV/dump valve is attached to the airbox, no?

reason why im looking online at ebay is for shipping purposes. I have to ship APO. I might be able to have one of my local friends accept the packages.

Restricting your exhaust to aid in boost control is sacrilegious imo. Upgrade the wastegate and enjoy the gains from the larger exhaust. 3" is a good size for most 4cyl turbo cars.

Switching to OBD2 will not benefit you in any way. The easiest cars to diagnose are those with a standalone with a data logger. I can turn my key on, turn my crank by hand and see in my logger when the spark plugs and injectors are fired.

The BOV can be connected anywhere between the compressor discharge and the throttle body. I have had them on the cold pipe and the hot pipe and there is no discernible difference. If your car has a mafs or an afm you need to recirculate the bov discharge back to the turbo intake (post afm/mafs and pre turbo). If you do not you will have stalling issues and extreme rich conditions between shifts.

It sounds like you are in over your head. I recommend you step back and try to learn the fundamentals of engines, forced induction systems, and basic efi engine control before you make choices you regret. If you knew what the bov's purpose was, what the afm does, how the ecu uses the afm, etc. you would know how to hook up your BOV from principle. Learning is half the fun; mindlessly bolting on parts is boring, unrewarding, and usually expensive in the long run.

Just some advice for you.

To ship something to you APO (in which case the company doing the shipping does not ship to APO) get an account at APOship.com OR have parents/friends relatives ship for you...

Secondly, be careful with what engine management systems you put on your car. That island has no dyno and everyone pretty much butt tunes the cars there, plus there is no one with real experience using anything outside of an apexi unit.

Thirdly. Too much good advice has already been given..I would heed their words if i were you.

Otherwise, when i was there, there were only 3 american owned 205's including my own. Where did you pick yours up from...Dealership orrr???

Lol, does the car have a continually musty smell in it....If so, i know that one, hahahha
It has an amazing back-story....On the other hand, there was another silver one, but never got the chance to meet the owner....Have you seen any other 205's on the island?

I've only seen one other one. It was silver. And no... no musty smell. although alot of parts have been changed out/replaced by the previous owner, interior and engine.

Not to thread-jack or anything, but I thought 95+ cars were OBDII already...?

Is it different in Japan?
