I just learned today (its actually quite sad cause I've had the car almost 2 years) that mines a Cali spec. Took off the manifold cover to make room for a hoist and low and behold there was a cadi. Which makes no sense cause the car has spent its whole life in NC... Also the guy I bought the car from (hes the second owner; also my bestfriend so I know, to at least him, its the truth) said apparently the 16" BBS rims (profile pics to see) were a dealer option? He said it was an older couple that bought the car back in '96 from the dealership and that the rims had been on there since day one.

Also I made progress today biggrin.gif

But its okay cause I have a new one laugh.gif

I'm pretty sure what makes it a cali spec is the other catalytic before the catback and not on the manifold side, i believe all celicas in terms of location have the cat on the manifold side at least. if you dont have the 2nd one under, you don't have a cali spec. technically a cali spec has two.

I shoulda clarified, I always thought the Celicas had their cat right past the axel about a ft before the exhaust (where my second one is). I never knew about the one under the manifold cover until then.

Dropped all the rear suspension to replace the bushings. Had the following happen.
- destroyed both ABS sensors
- found PS caliper top bolt had sheared at some point in the past.
- parking brake on PS had engaged and couldn't dis-engage enough to spin rotor and release tensioner. completely destroyed parking brake assembly getting it apart, but didn't damage the cable.
- mushroomed one 8" bolt, but both are seized.

hopefully the fronts are a bit easier.

why they are usually the best!

-The price for two tires was nearly $100 more than what they told me over the phone.
-I brought all four wheels in off of the celica, two wheels without tires, and scrubbed all 4 spotless with a scotch-brite and dishsoap prior so they'd be easier for the techs to work on.
-45 minutes after I arrived they informed me they checked the date of manufacture on my 2 old tires I only wanted balanced, and that they wouldnt balance one because of its age.
-1 hour after I arrived(10 minutes after they closed and locked the doors) I overheard a tech telling the manager they couldnt find my tires.
1 1/2 hours after I arrived they had finally finished.

My problem- I took the trouble of bringing the wheels in OFF of the car, clean enough to eat off of, and they didnt even have to remove my old tires because the 2 rims were already bare. It took them over an hour to even find my tires that were special ordered, what a cluster**** their store must be. Meanwhile, while they are wasting an hour and a half of my time to do what should of been 10 minutes of work they somehow find the time to CHECK THE MANUFACTURING DATE on my old tires and find an excuse not to balance them. I wont spend another dime at discount tire.

The front LCA bushings are easier than that.
Well, they should be at least, as long as nothin breaks or strips.

Cleaned out trunk of brother's new to him car. For once it'd be nice to not find a box of condoms in a used car... Well, I take that back. All the cars I've bought have been devoid of such. Then again these have all been small sports coupes, and not sedans... Yet another strike against sedans. tongue.gif

Did you check if the license plate was out of state? I've seen a couple 6gc's that belong to UM students. I've left flyers twice, not sure if they ever came to the site though.

Thats just terrible. Ater working in a tire shop for the last two and a half years, if I had a customer do what you did I would at the very least thank them, if not give them a discount for doing half of the work for me. And personally I have never like discount that much, it feels like I am just getting discount service.

Today I had the thought of swapping in a 4A-GZE as means of a cheap and easy swap since I have the ST. Looked up 4A-GZE engines on eBay, would be cheaper to find a wrecked MR2... One was over $1,400 for engine, trans, ECU, wiring etc... I don't need the trans though, still $1,000 or so. Would be better off selling the Celica and buying another car. Was trying to think of ways to keep the Celica and be happy with it. Though, would get some money back from the 7A-FE and ECU etc I suppose. Guess will look out for a S/C MR2 someone drove into a tree... Then would could regain, if not make, money.
