The blocks are so similar in design that it would take an expert to see the difference. The smog tech is mostly looking for things on or attached to the head anyway, so it would be almost miraculous if they managed to notice "somethin dont look right" with the block itself. I removed my engine and had it sitting around for weeks before I happened upon a tiny stamp on the block that says "3s". It was a 3sfe replacement block, not the 5sfe I thought I was removing. Sure there was subtle differences that I could have noticed If I was an expert, but with all the old 5s head and accessories and parts on it... I'd have never noticed if it wasn't for that tiny stamp way down in there. |

its not as easy to see the stamp on the S series, however right in the front is a big casting that says 3MZ so i hope i can cover it up somehow.

Hmmm....now that's interesting. I'd think the obd2 scan will be able to pick it up.

Hmmm....now that's interesting. I'd think the obd2 scan will be able to pick it up. i doubt it would. it doesn't tell you that it's a different block or that it's a 3.3L instead of a 3.0L. the block is basically the same as a 1mz, it just has larger pistons. |

Smaay, how was the wiring done? Was there more mod that needed to be done compared to a straight 1mzfe block and head? -------------------- |

its not the hybrid 3MZ block with 1MZ heads anymore. Its all 3MZ engine. I just dont have VVT control. im using a 2000 Camry MT ECU right now but ill be using a 97 soon. I need to source a 97 harness.
