So heres my situation. I'm stuck in a huge conflict with myself on whether or not i should buy this car i saw today. Its an absolutely mint condition red 1988 MKI MR-2 SUPERCHARGED with the 4a-gze in it. biggrin.gif

74,000 miles on the clock, cherry exterior with no blemishes or rust, always garaged and babied, engine is a little bit dirty but the owner of the used car place I live near drives it all the time, and i've driven beind him before (so i know he wasnt lying when he said that it was his car) T-tops, amazingly good interior with new steering wheel and all stock interior....amazing car. Asking 4 grand. smile.gif

Now my celica....1994, needs bodywork to get rid of dents and rust, about 155k on the car, ripped drivers seat, but has a great engine, loaded with features, and a bitchin stereo...lol.

Now, the dilemma is this---- do i sell my Celica and get more than enough to buy this rare MR2 like some of you other guys on here, or do i spend the money i have saved for bodywork on the Celica to make that a great car instead???? frown.gif

seriously take the MR2 out and drive it for a while. then this may sound odd, but ask the owner if you can wash it one day. lol it sounds really odd, but trust me, when you give the car a good hand wash, you will notice all the little things wrong with the body if there are any. you notice very small things on your car because you hand wash it all the time, if you hand wash the car you are prospectively buying, it saves you from finding things out later, such as rust under the doors or small dings or scratches you dont usually see. make sure to take a look also where the owner parks the car, note for any oil drips or things out of the normal around the car. just because a car looks good and has low miles doesnt mean it is that good. good luck! ive heard alot of people who prefer the MKi over a MKii turbo anyday.

Thanks for your input guys. K2, I know exactly what youre saying though, so dont feel crazy or anything. wink.gif Right after i got my Celica and washed it I said to myself wow....this needs some work...lol cwm13.gif So now that i learned from that, i have a very critical eye with cars....and the body looks ten times newer than my car- even the undercarriage is rust/corrosion/scratch free. Its obviously been well taken care of or just repainted very well cuz the red paint looks showroom fresh. smile.gif

Well, im going back tommorrow to take a ride in it, or maybe drive it. I figure that if its meant to be, thats when i'll totally fall for the thing. biggrin.gif And plus, i get to see what kind of driver the owner is, so this way i know if he cant shift well and beats the tranny or anything along those lines. Keep the opinions comming though. wink.gif

Dude, I love the celi as much as anyone, but if that MR2 is as nice as u say it is you have to get it. you're celi needs work. The MR2 is in perfect condition and its supercharged. It's no contest. Test drive it and if u dont find anything wrong id say buy it. If u dont want it buy it anyway and then i'll trade you my celi for it if its as nice as you say it is.

Keep the Celi, and buy the MR2 on payments??? (as long as the interest is reasonable) after all, you have to drive SOMETHING while you work on the Celica...

more like the other way around tongue.gif the MKi isnt even close to a daily driver haha

when a car looks like the 6gc, you dont need to do any extensive modifications for the car to be pretty cool. if your car looks like a MKi MR2... oh boy, you better WORK ON-IT.

since everyonehere is telling you to keep the celica do you mind telling us where this MR2 is at? cause a car that rare and in the condition you discribed is amazing. that car will also make a good road race car too.

Well, first off about the MKI....after looking at ALOT on the net last night doing some research, i realized how rare it really is, and it keeps tempting me. The good news is that at the moment its in good hands and the owner, who also owns the used car lot in town, babies it and im a witness to it. Regardless, what a great car, and i really dont think he's going to be selling it real soon...sooo, i could always look into buying it another time or making some kind of payments on it. Also, at the moment i wouldnt be able to garage it which would kill me because it is nicer than any other stock or modified MKI ive seen amd deserves to be kept perfectly due to its rarity and condition.

For the time being, i cant say goodbye to my Celica and give up this easily. Whoever owned that MR2 put alot of time into keeping it in great shape and doing repairs to make it look like new (if it hasnt always looked that way).
I think its MY turn to give the Celica what it really deserves, and spend that 3-4 grand to give it a new life in every way just like that MR2, with possibly more potential, practicality, better overall design, higher resale, features, etc. wink.gif

Although im going to be riding in it or *hopefully* driving it tommorrow at 11am, so i'll let you all know how it goes and take some pictures of it too. Should be a real experience. smile.gif

haha...hey why not. wink.gif It really is a tiny engine though....only 1.6 liters, and it's obvious when it starts up how small it is, and the supercharger rasp gives it alot of edge. I wasnt very impressed with the sound of the engine oddly enough, i think I'd rather hear 2.2 liters of Celica action under my hood. tongue.gif
