ive looked and found that some 4a or 4agze pistons will work, or with modification.. well does anyone have 1st hand experience on which one fits and what special you need to do to make them work. i would rather buy these than pay for customs.

Ask Doggy. The GZE pistons are what you want. they are made stronger than the 7a pieces. A machine shop can fit them to the 7a rods. I know this isn't what you were looking for, but it's a start;)

If this is going to cost a lot, you can get custom pistons from Arias. They're pretty reasonably priced from what I've heard.

I got GZE pistons for 120$ shipped from Ebay. Only difference detween 7A and gze pistons are that the wrist pins in GZE pistons is locked and the 7A is presured. Everything else is the same. So with little modification, you will have 8.9 instead of 9.5 compresion ratio. And as long as i know the 4A-GZE pistons are semi-forged, with ceramic coating on top.
And about arias pistons, check www.club4ag.com there is some guys selling them for somthing like 350$. Good luck ![]() -------------------- Ex celica owner - just a guy from other side of the pond...

if the block is scratched a bit,and needs to be bored out a tad to remove the scratches, can you get thicker rings, or do you need larger pistons.

well for my app. i have a stock 7afe that was pulled from a wreck at 80k miles.. so the block shouldnt need any work, i am getting the head port& polished, port matching etc. my worry is i dont want to put it back together to warp another piston or have the rings screw me.. and if im doing the pistions, i want to make sure that there not going cause my stock rods to snap or warp either. what companys carry gze pistons "off the shelf" (hoping i can get dealer cost on them) |

Ok, So thats the problem is, that the Stock pins are presured (so they are little bit bigger and they float in the rod) and GZE pins are locked (so they are little bit smaller, and they ment to float in the piston)??? My friend in his civic changed from stock pistons to forged SRP pistons, and these SRP pistons came with different pin (locking pin), and he hade any problems changing from one to another. So i think there wount be any problems changing pistons in our engine too.. If you have time, just wait and let me solve this problem, cuz after my car gets back from bodyshop (hope to get it by the end of NEXT week) i will pull my engine out, and start working. So i will know everything in details. -------------------- Ex celica owner - just a guy from other side of the pond...

Just to clear this up, so the machine shop knows what you guys are talking about when you go in....There are two types of wrist pin. Floating, and pressed in. The floating kind is small enough to move in the rod and in the piston. There are c-clips in the piston that keep it from falling out. It must have a supply of oil to it, so the rod may have to be modified. The pressed in wrist pin can still move freely in the piston, but must be pressed into the rod using a hydraulic press (and some heat). Any machine shop that does engine work should be able to convert them for you unless there is something strange about the design that prevents it. |

Has anybody done this yet? Also, I think I read that Zipstrips bought some GZE pistons from toyota: what GZE are they from, and do you have the part numbers?

per doggy, these fit no problem...i personally didnt get to installing mine yet, and will not for months probably. i got my GZE pistons from my dealer with rings... there are 3 versions from them i am told.. there is no real difference except what generation the motor is. 4agze is from the MR2 if stateside. 86-89 i believe... i will post my part numbers in my how to i am working on. im still collecting all my info and starting to organize it. |

Here all GZE pistons are shown with the 20mm pin. The AW11 pistons are Semi-Forged, while all the later versions are actually forged. From what I gather, we'd want the AE92 Japan 90-91 version of the pistons. |
