All you people laughing about Cruise Control are idiots. You all act as if the car would be used STRICTLY for racing. However, you fail to realize that there are people who still use the car as a DAILY DRIVER. These same people have to COMMUTE to work on a DAILY basis, and in some cases 80+ miles. What's wrong with having a 3S-GTE powered car with cruise control? When driving long distances, I find it convenient in MANY situations to use CC when I start to get tired. Again, the keyword here is DAILY. |

i use it whenever i see a cop... set it on the speed limit and relax... daily commutes dont seem to take long with a 3s... with a 3SGTE all trips seem shorter... and your gas tank empties quikly...

which is what I'm trying to avoid... considering our highest octane here is 91, and sells for roughly $2.50 / gal now. EDIT: There are gas stations that sell race fuel.. but that doesn't count... lol This post has been edited by kuya1284: Mar 22, 2004 - 5:47 AM |

this is the difference between american mentality and european. if you put cruise control in an engine like that you destroy what i was intended for, i mean how difficult is it to leave your foot on the accelerator? i drive 60 miles a day, its not difficult, just lazy. Same as putting an automatic in a vtec engine so u never get into the powerband. whats the point? -------------------- GT4 ST205 79 modifications and rising!!

i started this topic and i agree with kuya 100%. i mean i want my car to be comfortable because im not gonna be haulin' ass everywhere all the time. i live in FL, i have black leather. say me and my g/f go to get in my car shes gonna want some ac. when i have to drive to college next year, im gonna want my cruise control. people with corvettes have cruise control and AC and their cars are fast. your making no sense by saying that just because its a fast engine that these two things are unnesesary.

Dude... how are you destroying what the engine was intended for by having CC? That does not make sense. Seriously, what's wrong with having BOTH? NOTHING. If you go on a long 8 hour trip, it wouldn't hurt having cruise control. When you feel like racing, just don't use it. It's as SIMPLE as that. There are absolutely NO DISADVANTAGES to having both at the same time. |

When I drive hard, I get about 250 to 280 miles on a full tank. When I drive conservatively, I get about 380 to 400. |

When I drive conservatively i get about 20-25 to a gallong, but that goes down to like 10-15 when i drive hard... as for cruise control, its more of a toy i play with ... not something for long trips... the gt-4 came with cruise control, why not the swapped cars here...its just another feature like a sunroof , or navigation or whatever. the highest ive seen gas in miami was 93 octane for 2.10 but it seems to be going down and up..

the gt4/mr2 turbo was not designed for 6 hour trips on long straight roads. not saying it cant do it but if i was going on a trip where i needed 6 hours of cruise control id take a comfortable rental, not a sports car 2 cents deposited edit
eh? Ive only ever heard of one gt4 in this country having cruise control. an st185 This post has been edited by uzthedentist: Mar 22, 2004 - 1:15 PM -------------------- GT4 ST205 79 modifications and rising!!

Being in a respectable car club here in Southern California, we represent at shows all throughout California. Our next show is in Northern California, which is about 7 hours away. I'd OBVIOUSLY have to drive my car up there to show it, correct? If there was a big meet in NorCal or anywhere else that is over 6 hours away, I'd still drive my car. Again, there really is NO argument here and there are absolutely no disadvantages to having a car with both a 3SGTE and cruise control. If you still disagree, then you have issues. It's not like I would you my cruise control on the 1/4 mile track. LOL. |

thats fair enough but how many trips like that do you make?? 4 times a year maybe? i do have issues because when i go to buy a SPORTS CAR i dont look at the spec list and say, wow i must buy this cos it has abs, automatic transmission, airbags, air con, ebd and cruise control. If you do then your idea of a sports car is different to mine. -------------------- GT4 ST205 79 modifications and rising!!

OK, so if a car came with both... would you ask the dealer to dismantle the unit because you feel that a sports car should not come equiped with these extra features? If a sports car came equiped with all these extra features, I wouldn't complain. I'd just enjoy the car and take it for what it is and if you don't want to use the those extra features, then just don't use them. *sigh* It's as SIMPLE as that. I dont know about you guys but when i've been driving for along time my leg starts to get tired...putting the cc on makes it so much easier to stay in the car longer. When my swap gets finished I'm definately going to get the A/C and CC working. Why wouldn't you have those things? If someone got in your car that didnt know anything about cars and they were like..."dude, why dont you have CC or A/C?" If you told them that to have this specific engine you had to give up those things...they would think you were CRAZY!

true sports cars dont come with these features. the lotus elise released soon in the us is an example of this. Theyve had to add many more comfort car features otherwise you guys wouldnt buy it. comfort is a compromise in most cases. nowadays you pay more for the manufacturer to return the car back to a race car from a tourer. the porsche gt3 rs is a case in point, as is the honda nsx type r. Imagine someone going into a ferrari garage asking for cruise control, it would be extremely stupid. it all boils down to what you want in a car. If you want a bit more pep thats fine, then you can keep all the creature comforts. But if you want a car that drives fast, brakes well and handles well then unless you're planning to buy a merc mclaren sl with millions of dollars of RnD then you wouldnt keep these things in your car.
your answer to that is : because i drive a sports car dammit! funny cos over here if someone did a 3sgte conversion over here it would be 'dude, why havent you got 4wd??' at the end of the day i understand your argument, doesnt mean i have to agree. My gt4 serves the purpose of taking me places. I control it and it knows that lol! why would i want to hand over control to electronics of a job i can do perfectly well myself. this country is made up of many corners wheras you guys have many straight long roads. thats probably the reason you love cc so much -------------------- GT4 ST205 79 modifications and rising!!

Well Mr. Sports Car Enthusiast... if you consider yourself a TRUE Sports Car enthusiasts, what the hell are you doing with a Toyota? You're comparing apples and oranges my friend. Let's bring it back down a notch to the level of sports cars we've been discussing. I've seen an MR2, Supra, 300Z, RX7, Viper (older models), Corvette, and the NSX all with cruise control. Does that make them FAKE sports cars just because they come equiped with all these extra features? If you feel that these aren't true sports cars, then your GT-FOUR would be considered just as fake as your comments. EDIT: And stop TRYING to make an issue out of nothing. Now you're bringing up TRUE sports cars into this topic when you don't even drive a TRUE sports car (according to YOUR standards)... which is making this whole thing go off-topic. If someone wants these extra features, that's their peragotive. There really is no sense dragging this on. This post has been edited by kuya1284: Mar 22, 2004 - 5:10 PM |

I love my celica.
dont know if that matters, but i really do. And she's a beast to top it off. And she gets better and better every day. Now, as for the CC, my car was not equiped with one. But if you think about it, I live in Los Angeles. I'm in traffic 24/7. So i really would'nt use it here. But kuya is right. For long trips, i sure as hell would'nt mind giving my legs a break. But i guess i got used to it already. That probably explains why my legs are getting muscular. |
