First off, I recommend going with an amp that isn't from Sony. My friends haven't had good luck with their Sony Xplod amps.
Also, how much power do the subs handle RMS? And what impedance are they? -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

Chances are thoes subs dont handel NEAR 1200 watt rms... so judge your amp off of that, and as coomer said, my friends hated their sony amps as well.

I just bought 1 10 inch sony sub(the 1100 max one).
I have it bridged to 2 OHMS with a jensen amp(running 100watts RMS and 400 Max) and it rules! one of these 10's plays louder than the 2 Rockfords I have! People have had bad luck with the amps though, but there is a new model at Best Buy....It's black....they look sweet.....but I don't know if they're good. If you push the subs at or close to peak power they will Blow, the 12's are 350 Watts RMS so get a 2 channel that puts out 600-800 or 1000 at the MOST. Even then THey will make your ears BLEED Coomer your info:10's:300RMS, 12's:350RMS they are 4OHMS single voice coil. |

I agree sony amps are horrible, but the subs have pretty good sound quality, but if you push more that 400 watts the sound quality will start to decline. I was imprested by these subs for the money they are great. Peace, William |

Dude, no offense, but unless ur pushing the 2 rockfords off a 50 watt amp or something i dont see how thats possible. I bought 2 10" sony xplode p5's and pushed them off a Jensen 600 watt max amp and i wasnt impressed @ all. I blame the Jensen amp though, it just wasnt enough power for my taste. Anyway I would recommend an Audiobahn amp. They're good. If u dont want to spend a lot of $, DHD is good. I got a 1600watt max amp for a little over $200. It hits good. What capacitor u get depends on the amp. The more power, the better cap ull need. If u get a big enough amp u may have to upgrade the battery, but with those subs i think u should be ok. If u go far enough to get another battery, u may as well count on upgrading the alternator too and all thats gonna cost some cash. |

As far as an amp, you'll want something that puts out maximum power at 2 ohms, since you're running two 4-ohm single voice coil subs. Since each sub can handle 300 watts RMS, a sub that puts out 600 watts RMS or less would be wise. Personally, I'd suggest something like a JBL BP600.1. Class D circuitry, 600 watts RMS at 2 ohms, 12db/octave low pass crossover, and excellent reliability make this amp an excellent value. I had a BP300.1 and loved it, and I've never heard anything negative about this amp, except maybe the lack of some features, but it's an excellent amp. A one farad capacitor should work well for your install. Also, cars like ours use 12 volt batteries. A higher voltage battery will not work. I think what you're maybe thinking of is a deep-cycle battery. If you're going to run your system often with the car off, then a deep-cycle battery is probably a good investment. Otherwise, if you'll mainly be listening to music when the car is on and you're driving, you should be fine with your current battery. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

Sony's mobile audio sucks, period. Their older Mobile ES series was good, but other than that they break down easily, their build quality is trash, and their sound quality doesn't compare even to Audiobahn (using a well known, decent manufacturer for ease of comparison). I would suggest what Coomer has suggested. JBL makes good products, as they are reliable, have a good crossover slope, and give almost exactly their stated output.

I like MTX.
DONT GET ALPINE WHATEVER YOU DO. So expensive, yet the power kicks off every so often. Obviously you'd want the thing to be constant flow of power so the sound is good. LOL |

I don't know much about apline amps, but alpine subs are some of the best. You can get 12" type-Rs off of ebay for about $100; this great considering that normally about $200-250. William |

No, their subs have poor SQ if any. JBL is a good choice, but you better hurry and get one cause they won't be around long. |
