I have those parts, but didn't swap them. I was told by Richard Doig in New Zealand, that the Super Strut suspension tends to have problems. Hence, which is why they went back to the original McPherson strut setup. Because of this, I decided not to go with the SS suspension.

Here's a quote of what he told me:

QUOTE
The Superstrut suspension isn't actually that good,  too many balljoints to wear out.  Stick with your McPherson strut and just buy a big brake kit...

The factory rally cars used Superstrut at first but had so many problems they went back to Mcpherson.

Even though the AWD tranny is what makes a GT-FOUR, I still don't (and never will) consider my car a GT-FOUR. However, to me, it's my GT-FOUR Hybrid... because it's one of the closest that you'll get (so far here in the states... until Qatar finishes his, and a couple completes the registration of their ST205's). IF I do convert to AWD... it's not gonna be for a while... Either way... my FF setup may not get the "off-the-line jump", but it is still freakin fast and won't drag in the top end like the AWD setup.

yeah the figure 8 joints do wear out quite quickly(after about 50,000 miles) thats one of the main probs with these cars, but definitely improves the handling

as far as your car goes ull get far less transmission power loss than a gt4 does so u can put far morepower to the ground! up to 60 the 4wd cars have an advantage but after that the power starts to drop off!

ive always had respect 4 the way that people uprate their cars SERIOUSLY by engine swaps etc, because it scares the crap out of people who think their cars are fast when a sleeper goes and destroys them!

respect is due definitely to you and others that have gone through major effort(1.5 yrs!) to sort out ur car!

Thank you uzthedentist. It would definitely be nice if us Yankees would get more than just watered-down versions of these Japanese cars. I envy you people over the waters for having the opportunity of owning a nice piece of machinery. If it were even an option, I could have saved myself 1.5 years agonizing over when my car would have been finished. I'm just happy I got her back and quite content with how she drives now.

So do you post at gt4oc, as well? I haven't been there for a while.

yes i am one of the regular post whores on there lol

its a bit strange but your emissions laws are a bit ridiculous. how can an evo/gt4 not pass emissions laws but an 8 litre dodge viper pass it? or is there something else behind it?

The JDM motors won't pass (visually) because they lack the EGR system. But in most cases, the motors will pass the sniffer. Sometimes, they'll run a little rich... but I think it depends if one has a OBD2 cat installed.

Sleeper. biggrin.gif

I just want a really great clean engine in my Celica, racing seats, short shifter and a sick interior, and a nice clean paintjob with lightweight wheels. A very clean car to me is enough of a show-stopper.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I think the EGR system is only a requirement for California. Cali just has some strict emission laws...

uzthedentist, Its not to emissions that stop the importation of cars... its the data.
Since the car or engine isn't made in the u.s., the gov says that you have to provide crash test data along with road test and emissions. So, if you want... Import a GT4. All you'll have to do is crash it, rebuild, run it to 100k miles, record data, and slap 10k in performance restrictions on it and there ya go. Its that easy, god bless America and their liberal a.ss politicians. You can import cars already in the us, but theres really no point to pay soooo much for a RHD vehicle. The only company I've seen to import a non-native u.s. car is MOTOrex in Cali. Gotta love the 100k Skylines.

If you want to read more about it and import a car go to www.j-garage.com.

thanks for the info. Now i understand, these regulations have been placed in order to make it easier for american car companies to sell their cars and more difficult for foreign companies to sell theirs. this is quite similar to other forms of american business.

thanks for the info about importing a car but i dont need to import one as i already have a gt4

uhhh... show stopper because the better the car looks the more hoes u pull.

*shakes head in disgust*

This is a perfect example of why some people should not build cars.... its sad that some people have to use material worth to attact attention from the opposite sex... when I'm single I purposly will drive a girl around in a POS for a while just to see what she does.. if she don't like it then too bad cuz thats not the type of girl I wanna associate with.

but then agian I have never really had a problem getting girls if I want em wink.gif

*back to topic*

As for a sleeper vs a show stopper.. to a certian degree I dont see how you can do one with out the other... for a full performance car you will need to do some body modifications.. granted they dont have to be the greatest looking but if your gonna lighten the car and change aerodynamics to increase performance then you might as well make it look good instead of doing poor looking aerodynamics... if you build a show stopper and don't do motor work then whats the point... to me that kinda like a guy dressin in drag.. its false advertising.

but when you boil it down.. its your car and to each there own so do what appeals to you man biggrin.gif
