It's zipped up in RAR format. For those who don't have WinRAR installed, you can get it from http://www.RarSoft.com |

Ok... I decided to host the information... since people are having trouble opening the rar file. You can view the information here:
http://www.technoscribble.net/3sgte or you can download the zip file here: http://www.technoscribble.net/3sgte/3sgte.zip Please note that I am not taking credit for any of this. I'm just trying to help out a fellow board member. In addition, I have not yet read any of the information. I'll try to get around to reading it some time this week. Excellent. The only thing you forgot was the Axle bracket in the parts list. You mentioned it in your description but not in the parts list. There are actually two pieces. One that bolts to the back of the block, and the other the has to be pressed on the axle carrier bearing. I've got part #'s for everything if you want them.

Quick question. I know that if you import a 3S, you have to re-wire because the car is set up for RHD. However, if you had all the parts to a RHD car... would you still have to re-wire. Cause if not, boy oh boy would I jump right into the swap crowd. I'd have the only RHD 3S FWD around! lol. Thanks guys

1. Who actually rebuilds there engine before they swap?? Im planning on doing the swap myself when I get a celica and if i can eliminate things like a 1000 dollar rebuild kit then that would be great.
2. What about ecu? Do you have to find a 3sgte ecu? Do they tend to come with the engine?? 3. So aside from custom down pipe and wiring harness everything else while recommended is still optional? 4. The list of parts where it says "yes" "no" "recommended", Im assuming yes means you have to purchase that part? I thought you needed mr2 axles? or is that just because they are more rigid? or because they are needed for the e153 tranny? 5. Using the S54 tranny what clutch/flywheel combo will you use? Does the 5sfe stuff fit or do you use the 3sgte parts? 6. What are the difference in gear ratios between the e153 and s54 trannies? 7. For the people who did the swap who is using there 5sfe tranny? EDIT: Found this info about using the e135 tranny. My gt tranny is holding up fine on the swap. My 3rd gear syncro is jacked up. As far as power goes it's perfectly fine at 200 to the wheels. We'll see what happens when I turn up the boost, I'm sure it will be fine. I'm worried about launching at the track with slicks and gt axles. I think the mr2 lsd tranny is a little over $1400 for the whole swap. Mr2 tranny $900 Mr2 axles $150 St185 axles $150 Mr2 Clutch disc $120 Shift linkage $150 you use the inner halfshafts from one set and the outer halfshafts from the other to make custom axels. if i remember correctly, the celica axles fit into the wheel hubs, but not the transmission...and the mr2 axles fit into the tranny, but not the wheel hubs. so, you use the mr2 inner halfshafts and celica outer halfshafts to make an axle that fits both This post has been edited by Uppitycracker: Apr 3, 2004 - 11:23 PM |

i'll do the best i can.. 1. you dont need to rebuild just replace some parts. the engine shouldnt have more then 50k on it. -timing belt -water pump (interacts with the chain) -misc. belts -head gasket (maybe) -misc. hoses -etc. theres more on the swap pages. qatars swap 2. if you buy a clip is should almost def be there if you buy an engine make SURE its there. you can buy them on ebay for about 200 if all else fails 3. you can run stock down pipe for a while. DG is looking into making some. your going to need a midpipe (DG) FMIC or a hood scoop or gt4 hood for intercooler. Intercooler piping if you go front mount (DG) your going to need new exhaust, or just a muffler. you can always get custom exhaust from the midpipe. if you want to control boost you can pick up a manual boost controller for about 20 bux. 4.) if you use a mr2 tranny. your going to use the mr2 transmission and 6cyl camry solars halfshafts (i learned this from kuya) me personally, im gonna use my 5s tranny. qatar ran for a year on his 5s tranny with no probs, and so have a few others. altho some people have experience problems right from the start. i think it was supersprynt (sorry if i am wrong) who blew his bell housing as soon as the swap was done. here is a pic kuya made of the mr2/camry combination 5. you mix parts for the clutch. you should use the clutch for the transmission you use. say you use the 5s tranny. use a 5s clutch. use the flywheel and pressure plate off of the 3sgte. (almost 100% sure on this) 6. USDM - 4.176 final gear ratio JDM - 3.944 final gear ratio Also check out the max speed per gear: _______ US _________________________________ JDM____________ 5th gear (Rev Limiter): 126mph_______ 5th gear (6500 RPM): 142mph 4th gear (6300 RPM): 100.5 __________ 4th gear (7000 RPM): 122mph 3rd gear (6300 RPM): 78.1 ___________ 3rd gear (7000 RPM): 98mph 2nd gear (6300 RPM): 52.7 ___________ 2nd gear (7000 RPM): 67mph 1st gear (6300 RPM): 31.4 ___________ 1st gear (7000 RPM): 40mph Info from scotthanial 7. i think celic3sgte is, i am planning on it, qatar did for a year until his car blew up (not tranny related) DG is, Chrobis is |

Awesome man thanks for the info. Alot of that could go into the reference guide. It doesnt seem to terribly expensive for parts. Just a few more questions:
1. Where have people gotten there engines from? and for how much? what was shipping costs like? 2. How much would you estimate parts cost all together, not including any labour. |

1. I got screwed. i got mine from jdm.inc and it is missing everything, and they refuse to take it back even after i had a lawyer call them. im selling it locally for a few hundred bucks and sucking up the loss. chrobis got a clip from them and it was fine tho.
i would stick with jarco, venusauto, and rickysauto in miami. he seems to have decent clips, and hes all over ebay. his name is raceup. in my opinion get a clip! clip clip clip. nothing is cut and everything is there. engines are usually 1k-1500 and clips 1300-2300 2.well for me parts is gonna be about 3k because i went all out. freddy turbo timer and boost controller, fancy fmic, all custom piping etc. but i think including labor you could get it done for a bare minimum of 4k. depending on your labor costs. Ya I know most of whats being said but it always nice to get a second opinion from someone in the process of the swap! Im hoping to get all the parts for around 2500, thats including an engine lift. I dont think Ill get a clip and just face any problems as they come. Ill be doing the bulk of the labour myself, if I manage to get it in and running Ill just drive with an open exhaust to the local muffler place to have the exhaust done. And Ill have too see what kind of 3sgte I get, wether it will have the topmount or not, it seems the mr2 3sgte's are more common. This post has been edited by Uppitycracker: Apr 4, 2004 - 3:01 PM |
