hi there, i have 2 very bad noises coming from the back of my car, it seems like its coming from the wheels. first, when i got about 5-40 mph theres is this knocking/clunking noise. once i go faster or get on the highway it goes away. it doesnt happen all the time, but most of the time. the second noise is a really loud squeeking noise, like metal rubbing together. it happens when i make a hard right turn or turn from reverse. so does anyone know whats wrong? if one of these topics has been discuss before please link me to the thread, thanx

One sounds like maybe a caliper, the other no idea.

I had a clicking noise too. Someone did my brakes and broke the clip that holds the brake pad. It would be loud when driving on the streets, but when I was on the highway, I wouldn't hear it. It doesn't harm anything, it's just annoying as hell. I went to toyota and got the clip for like $10. To test to see if that's the problem, all you have to do is touch the brke pad and if it moves and clicks when you touch it, that's you problem.

What does the clip look like? When my calipers were being painted we found a paperclip looking thing. I still have it but don't know where it goes.

The scretching noise asyou said, is your rack, or easier way of sying, your powersterring, you might have a leak, or might just need some fluid, but only check it an becaful about adding it when its off an cold.. so let it sit for a few hours before checking or doing anything.

The clip looks like a 4 pronged bracket. It's real hard to explain, but if you're driving and you hear a galloping noise like a horse is right beside you, that's probably the problem. The clip is very inexpensive, but you hav to order it through Toyota. Like I said, it's not a true necessity, but it's annoying when the clip isn't on there.

i took my car to the shop, the knocking was the brake pad i think. and the screetching was a warped rotor. they rotated it so now it make less noise but i still have to machine and resurface it for the noise to be totally gone. thanx everyone for replying
