hey wusup guys, juss a few basic questions.
if the stress of 6k rpm in first gear the same at 6k rpm in 5th gear? also how does the power increase from 1st to 5th gear. i mean how do the engine and trans work to increase your speed through each gear. thanx a lot |

the engine always puts out the same power .. it the transmission that takes that power and increases it or decreases it.. the best in 1st gear if the crank turns once the gears in the tranny turns 3 times (just an example) no in 5th gear the crank turns 1 once gears move .5 times..
think about it just like a 10 speed bike in fist gear you pedal more and move slower in 10 gear you peadal less and move faster.. -------------------- |

Yup its all in the gearing of the transmission. Your engine will work a lot harder (taking more gas and what not) too accelerate in 5th gear because of the low gear ratios. But yeah the engine works just as hard at the same RPM's as in any gear. Except, of course, in hard acceleration (pedal to the metal).

Tire size is also part of the equation, taller than stock tires effectively change your gear ratios, go too tall and its like starting out in 2nd gear all the time. (note: not rim dia, but overall tire diameter. you can get an 18" wheel with a 35 series tire that is the same approx overall height as stock, just more metal/less rubber.)
And 1st is usually around 3.5-1 meaning engine turns 3.5 rpm for 1 axle rpm, 5th is usually 1-1 or even overdrive .8-1 or so, depending on car |
