Today i treated myself to a whole audio upgrade, except the subs b/c i like mine. I went to bestbuy early this morning and got a set of Alpine SPR-17LS Components for the fronts, a set of Alpine SPS-170A Mids for the Back seats and an Alpine MRP-F240 340W Amp to power them. Now my question is, i hooked them all up in the bitter cold, tore my hands all up and when i got them working finally they didn't seem to push as loud as the stocks. I can turn them up alot louder but i thought that they would've been louder at a lower level, am i wrong or am i not setting something correctly, i'm real new at all this stuff and any help would be appreciated, thanks.
![]() P.S. And if it matters (which i'm sure it does somewhat) i have a Clarion ProAudio DXZ845MC HU. |

And if it matters (which i'm sure it does somewhat) i have a Clarion ProAudio DXZ845MC HU. ok, first off... -Make sure that the RCA patch cords that run to your amp are plugged into the correct outputs on your head unit. then -Check to see if your head unit has an output volume setting for that particular output (sometimes you can adjust the volume of each output seperately, like if you had two amps powering your front and rear speakers you could turn one output louder than the other) -3rd Your amplifier output volume should be AT LEAST 3/4 of the way up if not all the way up. you can adjust the volume via the head unit so there is no need to try to control it with the amp. But be careful because you run a higher risk of overloading your speakers if you CRANK the volume on the head unit. Those are the only things that stand out in my head. I'm also assuming that you hooked this up properly. If you didn't, there is no way for me to know so I can't really troubleshoot it without actually looking at it. I'd be willing to take a peak at it if you're willing to make the drive up to CT ![]() hope it works out for ya bud! And if you are talking about the gain setting on the amp, then you are completely wrong. You need to set the gains on your amp CORRECTLY so your speakers are not recieving a clipped signal. Read this, learn ohm's law, grab yourself a DMM, and set the gains based on RMS wattage(s) of the amp(s.) -------------------- ![]() |

Having said that, please read the following without getting pissed. Actually, yes I was talking about the gain setting. I figured that since he said he didnt know much I would refer to it as volume instead of gain so he would understand what it actually does. And as for me being wrong: from your link... "Not all head units have the same maximum preamp output voltage. Some head units are capable of producing 9 vrms out while others are only capable of 1.5 vrms out." To effectively combat the problem he WAS having, what would the logical solution be? My recommendation worked in THIS case. So I wasn't wrong. But to each his own. ![]() -------------------- |

Hey, no hate at all, it's just better to know what it does and why it works.
Also, many amplifers will accept pre-outs that are as low as 250mV. Having a clarion, I'd imagine it's at least a 2v pre-out (probably 4.) I just don't want to see anyone drop money on new speakers just to have them blow ![]() -------------------- ![]() |
