Yeah, this is just an invitation for pawnage. Against a 02 Eclipse GS convertible with intake/exhuast I managed even until around 65 mph... Then it spanked me.

GS are slow a snails.

ok wait a minute where is the turbo on those cars he said it was somewhere hidden underneath the engine. he might be lying about this his emblems are shaved off so i really dont know what im going against it could be a baseline eclipse and i know i can beat them ive done it before

Ya I dont think its in plain site, just like the MR2, its hidden, but the piping makes it pretty obvious

Its hidden because the engine is "backwards." In the Celicas, WHAM right in front of u.

The turbo should be on the passenger side connected to the turbo manifold. Basically, if you're looking at the heatshield straight up, it'll be on the left side. The turbo manifold is what people will often call the turbo header.

Here's a pic of my car. His should be on the opposite side under a hose or something:

I thought the MR2's had the engine just flipped around. So that it would be in the back left corner.

Wait im so confused...

After thinking for more than 2 seconds...that would mean the exhaust would be in a different spot and stuff. It has to be in the front right. I got mixed up.

OH NM!! You're talking about an MR2... lol. Ok, if you're standing behind an MR2, yes, the motor will appear backwards. I thought we were talking about the GSX. My bad.

Well, check to make sure, cause you don't wanna get hustled.

And a GS can take an ST as well. An RS might be good competition for you.

I raced another friend who had a GS and SHE beat me. We used to go to the tracks together. But if you're rolling on 14's and your friend is on heavy 19's, you MAY have a chance... if it is in fact a GS.

Also 19s will increase top speed so once hes got momentum he'll hand you your ass again.

I don't think that's true. Bigger and heavier wheels will actually slow you down.

ive heard that before too. top end bigger wheels can help.... i dunno the sense behind it tho

Bigger wheels cover more ground while gears are moving slower than usual...more room to move up.

If they are heavier it will take more energy to get a 19" rim to a certain speed as opposed to a 17" rim, but per rotation your covering more ground with a 19" rim assuming the total diameter including the rubber is larger. So a gsx with 19"s will come out faster in each gear compared to a gsx with say 16"s, but obviously the car with the smaller rims will accelerate quicker.

Not to check if he has turbo, but to see if it's really a gsx...you could have him do a burnout and see if all 4 wheels are burning up?

And couldn't u hear when he was driving if the turbo was spooling or not?

And I've taken a few 1st gen eclipse gst's in my celi...and hand any dsm their ass in my rex.

So by your example of the two GSX's, in a long distance run, where the two cars reach top speeds, the GSX with the 19" wheels would benefit more? But if it were a short distance run (i.e. 1/4 mile) the GSX with the 16" wheels would win, correct? The reason why I'm asking is because when I used to hit the tracks, I would run 16.6 to 16.7 on the 1/4 mile (16.545 was my fastest). However, once I got the new wheels, I started running 16.9 to 17.2.

when will people get the fact that our celica is simply slow?
I keep on seeing thread after thread about people wanting to race cars that are a lot faster than ours excluding the 3sgte gt4 people. What's next? Some guy is going to challenge a viper? confused.gif
